Imagine: it’s London, England in the 1980s. You’re working in the financial district and it’s coming up on the third Thursday of November the annual release for Beaujolais Nouveau. You and all of your colleagues put down bets on who can be the first one to return from France with a bottle of this year’s Beaujolais Nouveau. It’s exciting. It’s new. It’s fresh.
We’re going to recreate that excitement with a 1980s-style Beaujolais Nouveau Release party. Consider the race to buy one of the 12 tickets now open! Not only will we try some of the Nouveau, we’ll also be opening some regular Beaujolais, and some exceptional Beaujolais Cru.
These fine wines compete with Burgundy for power, complexity and structure. Beaujolais is made with the Gamay Noir grape as opposed to the Pinot Noir grape in Burgundy, but these two grapes have many similar characteristics. Nouveau is the current year’s release (i.e. we?ll try the 2011 Nouveau), but we’ll try Beaujolais and Cru from previous vintages.
You’ll be sure to Get Into the Groove with Sheila Whittaker, a Certified Sommelier and Firefly sales advisor. We?ll Shake It Up with six to eight Beaujolais samples and Benton Brothers Fine Cheese will select three cheeses to pair with the wine. You’ll leave the event with a 10 per cent discount at Firefly and Benton Brothers and a healthy dose of nostalgia. So all you Uptown Girls and Nasty Boys break out those blazers with shoulder pads and laced gloves, skinny ties and silk button-downs, and moonwalk in for A Night to Remember!
P.S. — I’m *so* going to dress up retro-80s, and it would be fun if you did too! I’m already working on the music playlist…”-)
