Welcome to the 2011 Comox Valley 30-Day Local Food Challenge – a month-long celebration of food from July 2 to August 2 where you spend each day tasting, exploring, connecting and learning about the farmers, food producers and people who create our food through Showcase Events, hands-on workshops, tours and fun community food events.
You don’t have to give anything up to enjoy. Just head out and dig in to all of the great food our region has to offer.
With more than 40 events this year, we invite you to experience the Comox Valley at its very best – from sipping wine overlooking the vineyards at Coastal Black Estate Winery to the Silliest Sandwich Making Competition with children’s author Tina Powell.
Experience the spectacular local creations of some of the Comox Valley’s top chefs at restaurants including Avenue Bistro, Old House, Atlas Cafe, Locals – Food From The Heart of the Island, Mad Chef Café, Flying Canoe West Coast Pub and Plates Eatery.
Create memorable summer holidays with Shelter Point Distillery as they kick off the Food Challenge with a Canada Day weekend celebration and Tria Culinary Studio’s Kathy Jerritt creating a spectacular meal at Nature’s Way Farm and Blue Moon Winery.
Get the kids involved and digging in the dirt with the 2011 NeighbourWood Eats youth education program and learn about local food all month long with our Know Where Your Food Comes From Tour where local farmers, gardens, food producers and grocers host open houses.
Dust off the aprons and learn how to preserve the bounty of the Valley as Bernardin Canada and LUSH Comox Valley host a Canning 101 workshop series taught by Valley Chef Vivian Cruise and veteran canner Alexa Gilbert.
The Comox Valley 30-Day Local Food Challenge is an immersive community experience that connects people from around the Comox Valley to the agricultural traditions and potential of this region. Now in its third year, it is produced by Our Big Earth Media Co.
