Pop-up café and market features organic goods by donation to the food bank
It’s never been easier to eat well and do good. Local organic food company, Nature’s Path Foods Inc., is inviting Vancouverites to eat and shop in support of the hungry at the annual Nature’s Path Eat Well Do Good Foodraiser being hosted on Oct. 8th at Robson Square. Two themes run across the event: everything is by donation to the food bank and everything is organic.
Featuring a pop-up organic café and marketplace, 100% of cash and food raised at the event goes towards the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society and Food Banks BC. The need is great – food banks across British Columbia help feed 97,000 people every month, one third of whom are children.
Kicking off at 6 a.m., early morning commuters can fill up on freshly brewed Fairtrade coffee along with grab-and-go breakfast bags. Following 7 a.m., for a $5 donation guests can enjoy breakfast staples including Nature’s Path warm waffles with maple syrup or a selection of granolas and cereals. From 11:30 a.m. onwards, charitable foodies will rejoice to find a Que Pasa Mexican Foods nacho bar, grilled cheese sandwiches, and savoury soups, all for $10 – less than the average price of downtown lunch fare. Available throughout the day until 7 p.m. will be the Eat Well Do Good marketplace where shoppers can take home a grocery bag full of Nature’s Path products and fresh, organic produce for just a $20 donation.
For Nature’s Path co-CEO and co-Founder, Arran Stephens, feeding the hungry is a cause that’s very close to the heart. Stephens explains, “Nature’s Path and the food bank share a vision of accessible, healthy and sustainable food for all. No one should have to go without quality, nutritious food, regardless of circumstance.”
Stephens, once homeless and penniless himself, began the annual food bank fundraiser in 2009. Over the past six years, Eat Well Do Good has raised over $600,000 in food for Vancouver’s hungry, feeding over 28,000 families to date.
Each donation made will go a long way; for every dollar donated the food bank can purchase $3 worth of food. To further inspire people to give generously, Nature’s Path has pledged to match every donation raised at Eat Well Do Good, up to 40,000 lbs. in food.
“We invite fellow Vancouverites to open their hearts and fill their bellies with delicious organic food, all in support of our community’s hungry,” says Stephens, “With your generousity, we hope to make it the biggest year yet.”
