Mamma Mia!, ABBA and a Greek Feast at Fairmont Waterfront

on

You had me at Mamma Mia! Add a Greek dinner and a little ouzo, and this sounds like my kind of movie night.

I love ABBA, I love Mamma Mia!, and I’ve seen the musical live. Those songs never seem to get old. I haven’t made it to Greece yet, although I certainly wish I had. Until I can settle into a seaside taverna myself, an evening of Greek food with Mamma Mia! on the screen sounds like a lovely way to dream.

Fairmont Waterfront is launching Waterfront Cinema Presents, a new dinner and film series, on Friday, November 13, 2026. First up is Mamma Mia!, with a four-course dinner from Executive Chef Harris Sakalis, themed décor and dining tables set up for guests to eat while watching the film.

What makes the dinner especially appealing is that Chef Sakalis is drawing on his own Greek heritage. His menu brings together Mediterranean recipes and ingredients from the Pacific Northwest, with courses served throughout the screening.

There will be shared mezze with pita and house-made spreads, grilled octopus, crispy zucchini and osso buco, followed by pistachio baklava. A pour of ouzo over ice adds another taste of Greece.

I’m particularly interested in the octopus, and I’d certainly save room for baklava. There’s plenty here to make dinner a draw in its own right, even before the ABBA soundtrack kicks in.

Guests will watch from dining tables, with access to a dedicated bar and cinema concessions. Popcorn, extra drinks and other snacks will be available to purchase separately.

From Dancing Queen to Pretty Woman

The series will continue in 2027, with each evening taking its food and décor cues from a different film.

The announced lineup includes Pretty Woman for Valentine’s Day, Pride & Prejudice in spring, Beetlejuice for Halloween and Home Alone during the holiday season. Dates and menus for those screenings are still to come.

I’m curious to see what the kitchen does with Pride & Prejudice, although Mamma Mia! would be my first pick. Greek food, familiar songs and a room full of people who probably know every word sounds like a fun way to spend a November evening.

I’ll be in Texas on November 13, so I’ll have to miss this first one. If you go, please tell me how it was, especially the octopus and baklava.
