Raising funds for charity through a FREE BBQ & Chili for Charity Festival is all in a day’s work for the oldest Irish Pub in Vancouver, the Blarney Stone.
On Saturday, Sept 1, and Sunday, September 2, 2012, the Blarney Stone is hosting a two day outdoor block party style BBQ and Chili competition & festival with FREE admission to the public. With twelve Gastown Restaurants vying for top honours, this event is sure to be a draw for foodies and those looking for a fun filled afternoon of live music, carefully crafted BBQ and Chili, and fun for the whole family. Proceeds from the BBQ and Chili sales go directly to Athletics 4 Kids, a local charity that helps underprivileged kids participate in Sports.
The BBQ competition will be held on Saturday and the Chili Competition on Sunday. Celebrity Judges, including Vancouver Canuck, Jason Garrison, Global TV’s Sophie Lui, Team 1040’s, Joe Leary, and Vancouver chef, Peter Gray, from Whet’s Kitchen, Bar, and Patio. These local celebrities, along with the General Public, will vote on their favourite flavours and recipes over the weekend.
The celebration reaches its finale on Sunday night, with the awards for the best BBQ & Chili being handed out during the Blarney Stone’s 3rd Annual Labour Day Luau that will include an outdoor pig roast, and a top 40 cover band and DJ. Most importantly, this day will see the tallying of the funds raised for a very worthwhile charity where a cheque for funds raised over the weekend will be presented to the Athletics 4 Kids Charity.
Carrall Street, between Cordova Street and Water Street, will be shut down for the two days to make room for BBQ’s, Picnic Tables, Live Music Stage, Patios, Balloons and Face painting for the kids, and more, as the Lower Mainland comes to Gastown!
