SUMMER SPLASH = SMASH HIT!

Some people have a gift for generosity.

It took just over two hours for the 250 plus guests at the second annual Summer Splash fundraiser to generate $40,000 for the Vancouver Native Health Society, the Downtown Eastside non-profit.

Of course they had plenty of inspiration. Like the glamorous bikini fashion show with designs from Sports Illustrated favourite Anna Kosturova. Or the sizzling salsa dance performance by the Mambo Hustlers. And the evening’s grand live auction item – a painting titled ‘Bright Lights Over Only Seafoods’ donated by Tiko Kerr. Valued at $6,500, it sold for an amazing $16,800.

The funds Splash raised will help VNHS expand services to help more Downtown Eastside residents, especially through a planned new kitchen to serve the more than 150 people it already sees every day.

A DINNER TO REMEMBER

If you haven’t taken your palate out for a new experience lately, we have just the invitation for you: a small winemakers dinner on July 15th (a Thursday) with a fabulous menu and wine pairings from Oregon’s Duck Pond Cellars.

What’s on the menu?  Soy and thyme brined sablefish paired with 2007 Duck Pond Chardonnay.  Then we have the sake soaked rack of lamb, paired with 2008 Duck Pond Pinot Noir.  And so much more…

Scott Jenkins, Duck Pond’s Director of Sales and Marketing, will be here to speak to the wines, which will also include 2007 Duck Pond Pinot Grigio, 2008 Desert Wind Bare Naked Viognier and 2004 Duck Pond Merlot.

If you want to be here too, we advise taking prompt action – call us at 604.689.8318. There are only 35 tickets ($135 each, HST included). The Duck Pond reception starts at 6:30pm with dinner at 7:15.

Named after Summer Splash, here comes a refreshing seasonal cocktail landing on our menu just in time for patio days. (Skillfully crafted by our Sommelier, Kimberly Hall.)

Summer Splash cocktail is made with gin, lemon juice, kaffir lime simple syrup and of course, bubbles.
