The Growing Chefs! Going Local! Local Food Challenge is fast approaching! It’s time to explore all the delicious food your community has to offer! We hope you’ll join us on this challenge to learn a bit more about your local culinary offerings and help us raise a bit of money and awareness for Growing Chefs!
The challenge: Eat the 100 Mile Diet for seven days
When: June 13th – June 19th
How it works:
1. Sign up by emailing us. We’ll also have an online campaign center for you to use. You can ask for donations, post pictures, and track your progress!
2. Raise a bit of money for Growing Chefs! [$50 for individuals, $300 for teams. You have until the end of the campaign to finish fundraising!]
3. Eat local for seven days.
4. Win awesome prizes! Our top fundraisers will win great prizes!
The guidelines:
- Find your 100 miles here at the 100 Mile Diet website.
- Learn what foods are in season and plan menus around them. For B.C., check out these great resources from Get Local B.C.
- Set your limits. We want you to explore all that local food has to offer. We also want you to have fun doing it. So set your own limits and determine what, if any, will be your exclusions. While eating your 100 Mile diet, we suggest allowing yourself 2-3 wildcards a day.
How we can help:
One of the toughest parts of eating local, at least in B.C., is how to find local grain. We can help! We have CSA locally grown flour that we can sell you! Just email us if you’re interested. We’ve also arranged for Biovia, an organic wholesale distributor of local produce, to sell direct to participants!
