Heritage Harvest Celebration

October 2, 2011 from 12 pm – 4 pm at the Great Northern Way Urban Orchard. There are a lot of fun activities planned, including:

• Sampling delicious local apple varieties and learning about local fruit trees in the Lower Mainland with the folks from the Vancouver Fruit Tree Project.

• Hand-pressing apples and enjoying a tasty cup of spiced cider (the non-alcoholic kind!).
• Enjoying First Nations-inspired treats from local restaurant Salmon n’ Bannock.
• A variety of children’s activities including: apple stamping, face painting, bubbles and more!
• A First Nations Welcoming Ceremony and Drum Performance by the Siyamin Stamsh Cultural Society.
• Learning about traditional uses of medicinal and edible plants that are native to the area, with the Institute for Aboriginal Health Garden.
• Making your own seed bombs to take home with local artist Ella Cooper.
• Tons of sustainable local door prizes and free LUSH giveaways
• Live music from Redbird and Little Darjeeling.

WHERE: The Orchard is located at 555 Great Northern Way – when you enter the complex, turn left and pass the Evergreen office (the building on your right with the green awning). Take a right at the dumpster – you can park in front of the BCIT Green Roof Center, in the gravel lot on your left. The Orchard is directly behind the Center.

Parking is limited, so try to arrive by bike, transit, or on foot!
