Our Best Creation Yet
Michael and Heidi are proud to announce a new arrival to JoieFarm with the birth of our first child, Theodore Miles Dinn on May 10th, 2010. We are thrilled to have Theo join us and he has become part of our daily rhythm on the farm. Both mom and baby are back out in the vineyards already.

Down on the Farm
It has been a cool, wet spring in Naramata with a late fruit set. However the past three weeks of heat has given us hope and it looks like the this year’s crop should ripen nicely for the 2010 harvest. Our new cover crop of mustard, clover, tatsoi, dill and vetch was sown in early March and really helped in not only providing an easy feast for cutworms (which in the absence of spring ground cover will eat tender vine buds in April), but serve to tie up moisture in our tractor alleys in a wet year. Inter-row cover cropping is an excellent way to keep vigor down. It is a way promote cluster growth and ripening instead of an overgrowth of shoots and vines. With our efficient vineyard crew, we timed our shoot positioning just right to make sure we could take advantage of an orderly canopy, allowing dappled light into our clusters and taking advantage of the Naramata Bench’s ever-present breeze blowing through keeping everything dry and naturally mildew-free. 90 days until crush begins in earnest!
