The Masthead Restaurant & The Arthur Vickers Gallery celebrate the Cowichan Wine & Culinary Festival event!
The Cowichan Wine & Culinary Festival (CW&CF) Committee is pleased to announce an exclusive event hosted by The Masthead Restaurant featuring Riedel, The Wine Glass Company, Alderlea Wines and iconic west coast artist Arthur Vickers on Thursday, September 15th, 2011.
“We are very pleased that The Masthead Restaurant and Arthur Vickers have so generously created this one-of-a kind experience for the 2011 Festival visitors,” mused Mike Hanson, Festival Director, 2011 Cowichan Wine & Culinary Festival.

“It is a great pleasure to create this showcase featuring the amazing bounty and talents of the Cowichan,” stated Luke Harms, Proprietor, The Masthead Restaurant.
This remarkable afternoon will start with an unique and fascinating Riedel Glass Tasting of Alderlea Vineyards’ wines at the Masthead Restaurant in Cowichan Bay. Roger and Nancy Dosman of Alderlea with David Saunders of Riedel will demonstrate the relationship between the shape of a glass and our perception and enjoyment of wines. All guests will take home a complimentary set of four Riedel Crystal Tasting glasses.
Guest will then stroll next door to the Arthur Vickers Gallery picturesque building for reception with hors d’oeurvre, bubbly and intimate conversation with the artist as he shares his history and legends of the true west coast. Arthur uses many mediums and his voice to unlock the magic and mystery of arguable some of the world’s most stunning landscapes and coastlines.
“I believe it is my purpose as an artist to tell the stories and capture through my artwork not only our world, but also my past and the beauty and legends of the coast that I love,” declared Arthur Vickers.
This distinctive experience will conclude with a four course Taste of Cowichan dinner prepared by Chef Martin Harrison with local wine pairing at the Masthead Restaurant. Taxi recommended.

The Cowichan Wine & Culinary Festival invites wine and culinary aficionados to their wineries & farms doorsteps September 14th – 18th, 2011.
The Cowichan Wine and Culinary Festival will celebrate Vancouver Island wines, culinary excellence, original music and art from September 14th – 18th, 2011.
The Cowichan Wine and Culinary Festival is designed as a self-explore festival where visitors are encouraged to download a map from the website or pick one up from a festival participant before sipping and tasting their way through the Cowichan Region. All festival participants will have something special going on during the weekend-long festival and most daytime activities are free of charge. In addition to all the free activities, visitors can also choose to purchase tickets to some of the premier events. Attend exclusive winemakers’ dinners or enjoy one of your favourite bottles of wine over a buffet lunch.

Arthur Vickers
Arthur Vickers is often described as a modern day renaissance man. Known for his easy laugh and his love of telling stories that broaden our view of nature and the world around us, Vickers is also recognized for his
highly sought after and internationally collected artworks. The gallery celebrates Arthur’s Vickers’ passion for the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia’s coastal communities. In his work and storytelling, he captures the legends of his past, honouring the natural beauty that has surrounded him all his life and the many ancestral legends of British Columbia’s First Nations. Vickers’ uses many artistic mediums, along with his voice to unlock the magic and mystery of arguable some of the world’s most stunning landscapes and coastlines.
Alderlea Vineyards
Roger and Nancy Dosman operate Alderlea Vineyards near Duncan on the slopes above Quamichan Lake in the Cowichan Valley (Prior to 1911, the town of Duncan was known as Alderlea). Established in 1992, winemaker Roger is dedicated to growing high quality grapes and producing 100% estate grown wines. All products are made from the vineyard’s grapes, including superb white wines, red wines and ports.
Our white wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, while our red wines are aged in American and French oak barrels. Our careful vineyard management and dedication to winemaking produces quality Cowichan Valley wines, full in varietal character and easily enjoyed with a variety of cuisine.
