Vancouver-born George Katagai takes lead of the expanding Miku Restaurant team, as they look towards their first year anniversary in November. Assuming the role of General Manager, George is a well-known name throughout the city’s flourishing restaurant scene and has graced several popular establishments with his amiable and charming demeanor.
Raised in Burnaby BC, George lived in Japan for two years where he gained an excellent grasp of the language, before returning to Vancouver where his love of people and passion for the hospitality industry launched him into a flourishing career.
George’s experience and recommendations list impressively; personally chosen by Warren Goss to lead the launch of The Park Royal Keg in 1999 as well as open Saltaire Restaurant and Terrace in West Vancouver where he had the opportunity to work directly with restaurateur Rob Ward; and was a part of the management team at both Cardero’s and Sandbar Seafood Restaurant.
Since opening its doors in November 2008, Miku Restaurant has seen its popularity increase considerably throughout the summer. From securing bronze in the Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards to hosting an impressive range of high-profile celebrities, Miku Restaurant offers authentic Japanese cuisine, at a world-class level.
“Miku Restaurant has all the ingredients in place to establish itself as not only Vancouver’s most innovative Japanese restaurant, but also as a serious contender in world restaurant rankings”, declared George. “Staff are at the very heart of the Miku experience, from Miyazaki-trained chefs to our passionate bartenders and our sincere servers. I am delighted to take my place in this remarkable team.”
A true advocate of authentic Japanese cuisine, George brings his natural style and passion to the team at Miku. When not attending to guests, George is often spotted on the North Shore Mountains and Whistler, enjoying the trails on both his skis and mountain bike.
Tai Hasumi continues to be a familiar face at Miku Restaurant, as he takes a small step back to focus on family life.
