ANOTHER GOLD FOR JOE

Joe’s appetite for gold grows. At the start of April it was five Golden Plate Awards.  Then at month’s end, it was another Gold in the Fetzer’s Great Beginnings appetizer challenge at the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival. Guests tasted, compared and voted – and there is simply no arguing with taste – or guests.

Ryan Mah did the honours for Joe’s with a bacon wrapped king crab tempura with crushed avocado and Fresno Chili sauce. Just the words make you salivate.

It was the second year in a row Ryan served up the winner, two years with a judges’ choice and this year with a people’ choice.

WE’RE HOT AND WE’RE SMOKIN’

Joe’s oyster bar is definitely smoking’. We’ve got a new recipe for smoked oysters that everyone seems to want and we can barely keep up. Here is the drill: we use Sawmill Bay Beach Oysters, freshly shucked. We then cure them in brine with soy, ginger, orange zest and brown sugar. They are then cold smoked for 4 hours…and on your plate with horseradish cream and pickled onions.
