What better excuse to get out and try a new restaurant if you haven’t stopped by this place already than this tasty fundraising venture. From December 1-14 Mamie Taylor’s restaurant has teamed up with not-for-profit Not So Fast and will serve an stellar Pierogi dish with profits benefiting the “Inside The Box” Friday food program at the Strathcona Community Centre.
Chef Tobias Grignon was challenged to create a signature dish using frugal and healthy ingredients from a very short list of affordable dried goods, high-protein nuts and legumes, and seasonal vegetables – The Sunchoke and Goat Cheese Pierogies served on Braised Lentils with Roasted Kale and Walnuts ($18) dish were born.
The “Inside The Box” program provides essentials such as rice, beans or lentils and a recipe that features low-cost, seasonal produce such as kale and root vegetables.
Since the program began last month, more than 150 Downtown Eastside families have been helped with Not So Fast’s “Think Inside The Box” meal starters.
