Organic Fair Soda Line Launched at Food Fest

Not your average Lemonade Stand

Cobble Hill, BC: Organic Fair Farm & Garden participated as a Farm Exhibitor in the 2012 Island Chef (ICC) Food Fest, where they launched the new soda line product and offered honestly delicious handmade organic ice cream made with heritage chicken eggs from the farm and a dark chocolate vegan choc-sicle.

Food Fest is the highlight of Vancouver Island’s festival year — chefs from some of the finest restaurants on the West Coast work together to raise public awareness of sustainability issues and support for locally produced food.

“Food Fest was a great time and a cause close to our hearts, after all it is a fundraiser supporting local farmers and processors,” stated Marisa Goodwin. “As local farmers and food processors ourselves we are happy to offer support to the ICC to create a pool of funds for growers, harvesters and processors. We have the first hand experience to know that investing in equipment and materials is a challenge and this type of support will allow our  peers to focus on the important task of increasing the supply of food in the region.”
“We were excited to launchour new soda line at ICC Food Fest. We have served our sodas at the Farm for a few years but now to satisfy the demand to be able to take some home, we have created this soda line including Rootbeer,  Elderflower, Lavender Lemonbalm Lemonade, Vanilla Rhubarb and Strawberry Douglas Fir,” announced Marisa Goodwin. “Elderflowers are a deliciously fragrant flower on our farm. All over Europe it is revered as both food and medicine. It was believed that a dryad named Hylde-moer ( Mother Elder) inhabited the tree and protected those who worshipped her. She is thrilled we are sharing this gorgeous farm grown soda syrup with you!”

The Easy Peasy Instructions: Combine 7.5mls to 15mls of Syrup with 250mls of Sparkling Spring water. Add lemon, lime or a couple slices of cucumber for a refreshing zip. Excellent with gin or vodka.

“People often ask how we come up with our product ideas. For example, to understand the creation of Vanilla Rhubarb, you must understand that rhubarb is the official herald of spring on our farm. We reward it’s tart vigor by combining it with everyone’s favourite flavour vanilla,” revealed Marisa Goodwin. “This delicious result tastes of cream soda with a zing.”

Food Fest is the Island Chefs’ Collaborative’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Profits go towards increasing local food security by directly supporting those who can increase sustainable production. The Island Chefs Collaborative and FarmFolk CityFolk have partnered with Vancity to offer a zero interest Microloan Fund. The delivery methods include a grant program for non-profit initiatives, and a new zero interest microloan program supporting farmers and processors. Applications are being accepted on a continual basis.
