PENTICTON WINERY SELLS BOTTLES FOR $4,000 EACH

Special bottling by Perseus Honours Hockey Heroes

In short:

Perseus, located steps from downtown Penticton, sold two bottles of wine for a whopping $4000 each! At the BC Hockey Hall of Fame (BCHHF) gala last week, two 3L bottles of specially labelled BC Hockey Hall of Fame Collector Series Invictus 2009 were auctioned off by celebrity auctioneer Stockwell Day for $4000 each, with full proceeds benefitting the BCHHF.

The bottles at the gala auction kicked off Perseus’ celebration of the 2011 inductees to the BC Hockey Hall of Fame, and now Perseus announces the release of the BC Hockey Hall of Fame Collector Series Invictus 2009, a limited release wine sold at the winery only for $39.90 per 750ml bottle. From each bottle sold, $5.00 is contributed to the BC Hockey Hall of Fame. Perseus is located at 134 Lower Bench Road in Penticton and is open daily from 10am – 6pm.

In 2011 the BC Hockey Hall of Fame celebrates its 20th anniversary. Inducted in to the BCHHF this year were Joe Sakic, Jack McIlhargey, Rob Shick, Dr. Duncan Wray and the first BCHL team to win a national championship, the 1986 Penticton Knights. They were honoured on July 22 in Penticton.

Larry Lund, one of Perseus’ founders, is a local hockey legend. A former player, Lund also founded the Okanagan Hockey School. With Lund’s dual passion of wine and hockey, it was a logical connection for Perseus to support the BCHHF.

To mark the 20th anniversary and recognize the 2011 inductees, Perseus bottled 200 cases of the BC Hockey Hall of Fame Collector Series Invictus 2009, a Bordeaux-style blend. With a backbone of Cabernet Sauvignon, joined by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the resulting wine is full bodied with intense berry flavours and beautifully integrated tannins. The custom label features a rendering of the inductees’ faces, as sketched by Penticton artist Glenn Clark.

Already sold via live auction for $4000 each, were the two 3L bottles. Stockwell Day was the celebrity auctioneer at the BCHHF Gala Dinner Awards on July 22 where inducted honorees, media and invited guests all had the occasion to taste the blend.

A limited release, only 120 cases are still available to be sold through the winery only. The 750ml bottles retail for $39.90 each, and $5.00 from every bottle sold goes to the BC Hockey Hall of Fame. Perseus is located at 134 Lower Bench Road in Penticton and is open daily from 10am – 6pm.
