Offering a wide selection of traditional west coast cuisine with distinctive Mediterranean and Asian flavours, Prestons restaurant opened as the culinary anchor in the new Coast Coal Harbour Hotel on January 15, 2010 at 1177 West Pender.
Striking an enviable balance of vibrant energy, contemporary decor and a neighbourhood comfort feel, Prestons is backed by an innovative menu featuring fresh, skilfully prepared Northwest cuisine. Under the guiding hand of Restaurant Chef Alessandro Vianello, the new restaurant’s creative Intro Plates include Seared Diver Scallop & Sweet Prawn Gyozas, Hoisin & Star Anise Glazed Pork Ribs as well as Beef Carpaccio with White Truffle Drizzle. Featured bowls include Steamed West Coast Mussels in Cilantro Chilli Coconut Broth, and Wild Mushroom Ravioli. Entree-size dishes range from $13 to $26 including Traditional Pad Thai with Chicken, Prawns & Tofu, Grilled Chicken and Triple Cream Brie Sandwich on Cranberry Bread with Sweet Onion Confit, Rustic Prosciutto Filon, Pancetta & Okanagan Chevre Stuffed Chicken, Espresso & Fig Braised Lamb Shank, Szechuan Peppercorn Crusted Ahi, Wild BC Salmon with Putanesca Sauce and Prestons’ Signature Fraser River Stone Steak.
To compliment the menus international flavors, Prestons wine list is concise yet regionally diverse and well priced. It includes popular favourites from B.C. as well as select pours from France, Italy, Germany, Spain, California, Oregon, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina and Chile. Stand-out drinks include Prestons’ Pimms Punch Pitcher, Pepper Me Pink, a sweet and slightly spicy mixture of crushed strawberries, spiced rum, ginger ale and pink peppercorns, the Paper Boy, a refreshing concoction of crushed blueberries, fresh mint, cassis, blueberry liqueur, gin and apple juice, along with new twists on the classics.
Topping off the menu is a decadent selection of delicious desserts including a Chocolate Lychee Sundae, Rustic Peach Pie, and Vanilla Cheesecake with Honey Balsamic Strawberries.
Prestons provides a distinctive modern atmosphere with rich chocolate brown, grey, silver, black and red interior finishes and a combination of mixed media all complemented by subtle mood lighting. With seating for 105 guests, Prestons’ street level features 10 private booths and an 18-foot long solid cypress communal table, weighing one metric tonne, surrounded by sleek, red leather chairs set against a backlit abstract wall mural depicting Vancouver’s cityscape. The long stone counter bar with seating for 12 guests is set against a backdrop of three-dimensional “Modular Art” panels. The 2,200 square-foot restaurant’s upper dining area includes six private booths and open seating for 16 providing a more intimate dining setting.
This is the second Prestons restaurant to open in the Lower Mainland. Prestons in the Coast Chilliwack Hotel opened in August 2009.
