Minami Restaurant hosts a special patio event with Sake Samurai Timothy Sullivan and Hakkaisan Brewery this June
One of the world’s most passionate sake ambassadors, , visits Vancouver on Wednesday, June 5th, 2013 to co-present a special night of sake and sushi with Minami Restaurant’s own sake specialist, Miki Ellis. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., guests will get to sip exclusive sake from the Hakkaisan Brewery in Minami’s hidden patio lounge, and taste dishes created by Executive Chef Kazuya Matsuoka.
Sullivan, who runs popular blog Urban Sake, is a sake writer, educator, and speaker. He was anointed a Sake Samurai by the Sake Brewer’s Association of Japan in 2007 because of his dedication to promoting the art and culture of sake across the globe. He is also an official brand ambassador for Hakkaisan Brewery, a renowned brand from the Niigata Prefecture in Japan.
“I look forward to visiting Vancouver for the first time, and hosting such an incredible event with Minami’s Miki Ellis,” says Sullivan. “I first sampled premium sake in New York years ago and was amazed by its complex, nuanced, and delicious flavours. What started as a hobby has now certainly grown into a labour of love. I hope more and more people will decide to enjoy sake, especially because it pairs so well with food.”
The Hakkaisan Brewery line includes several different sakes, including Junmai Ginjo, Ginjo, Daiginjo, Tokubetsu Junmai, Honjozo, and Futsushu. This will be the first time they unveil their whole range to Western Canada. Hakkaisan sakes are beautifully refreshing, clean, and crisp – complimenting many types of cuisines.
“Not only are we excited to have Timothy at our restaurant, but also the opportunity to introduce our guests to the diverse flavours of sake from Hakkaisan,” adds Ellis, currently the youngest Certified Advanced Sake Professional in North America.
Minami Restaurant is located at 1118 Mainland Street. Tickets to this patio party are $39 each (inclusive of taxes and gratuity), and guests will enjoy sake from Hakkaisan Brewery and several sushi and canapé dishes throughout the night.
