For three weeks in November, a spicier side of Jean-Georges comes to life in Vancouver. From November 8 to 30, guests of Market by Jean-Georges will have the opportunity to taste the dishes and spices of the famed Spice Market NYC.
The Spice Market promotion starts with the arrival of Anthony Ricco, executive chef of Spice Market.
Six signature Spice Market dishes will be added to the dinner menu. Available a la carte, C$10 – C$30, or as a tasting menu, C$68, these six dishes top Spice Market’s list of favourite items:
- Shaved Tuna, Chili Tapioca, Asian Pear and Lime
- Spiced Chicken Samosas, Cilantro Yoghurt
- Black Pepper Shrimp, Sundried Pineapple
- Cod with Malaysian Chili Sauce, Thai Basil
- Vietnamese Chicken Curry
- Ovaltine Kulfi, Caramelized Banana and Spiced Milk Chocolate Sauce
On Wednesday, November 10 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., Chef Ricco will host six people eager to learn the secrets of Spice Market. The Spice Market Culinary Class includes instruction with Chef Ricco, a signed Jean-Georges cookbook and dinner in MARKET immediately following at 5:00PM. Priced at C$125 plus tax, per person, reservations can be made at (604) 661-3326. Additional diners joining the culinary ‘students’ will be charged C$65.00 plus tax for the six-course tasting menu.
Spice Market, located in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, was inspired by the street food Jean-Georges enjoyed while traveling in Southeast Asia. Since opening in 2004, the cuisine and lively atmosphere of the famed New York eatery has transported diners from Vietnamese street markets to a Thai food stalls.
