Sweeney’s of Yaletown announces they will close, effective immediately, as they look for a new location. “We have not been happy with the level of evening business since opening” says manager Gerard Egan, “and felt we never found our footing in the Yaletown market. Lunch was always a success, dinner however was never busy enough. This location just wasn’t the right fit for our concept, but that doesn’t mean another part of Vancouver isn’t, so we are closing the door for now and hope to open again in a location that works better for our concept.”
Sweeney’s was considering looking for a new location when an opportunity for their Yaletown space came to their attention, so rather than enter into Vancouver’s slowest two months already struggling with the dinner service, they decided to close, effective immediately, and take their time looking for a new location. Plans for the space will be announced in due course.
“We served only the best ingredients” says Chef Glenn Saunders, “and had only the highest standards. They were our standards and we didn’t want to lower them in order to make us cheaper, less unique, less organic. We are OK with that…”
In the mean time, the Sweeney’s staff invites you to come visit them at the Galley Patio and Grill at Jericho Sailing Club (same owner) – Open year round the Galley has been one of the west side’s busiest and most scenic restaurants for over 20 years.
Sweeney’s would like to thank all our wonderful guests, many supporters and fans. We will keep the twitter feed open and will update you from there on the future plans for Sweeney’s.
Happy New Year to our staff, our great customers, suppliers and the friends we made in Yaletown!
