Food for Thought Art Exhibit
Location: Roundhouse Community Centre, 181 Roundhouse Mews
Dates: October 12 – 19
Artwork by: Nielsen Artworks,  Janice Wu, Vancouver Farmers Market, and Ungalli!
Description: Come down to the Roundhouse and have a stroll through the Exhibition Hall to see what community and art look like when they come together. Artist Katherine Nielsen has re-invented the children’s alphabet book. “ I believe that the connection created between the complex chemical names use in food processing today and the simple, vulnerable illustrations of a children’s alphabet book will create a juxtaposition between what we are feeding ourselves and what we are teaching children about food.”  Janice Wu is a visual artist and freelance illustrator from Vancouver, BC. Working primarily in pencil and gouache on paper, her watercolour drawings address material culture and the everyday. Her illustrations have been featured in The New York Times, Fortune Magazine, The Walrus Magazine and Canada Post. Come see the work she’d done for the Hua Foundation. Clothing made of recycled plastic? Yes! Come and see for yourself what can happen to that plastic water bottle you’ve recycled. Vancouver Farmers’ Market shoppers have created unique, colourful, festive, handmade bunting that will display what community can create when they come together. The diversity of it all will provide food for thought about how we see food and sustainability and translate that into art for our senses. Generously sponsored by Ungalli Clothing Co.
