East Van Location Update
We’re very excited to announce that the relocation of the East Vancouver Market to the North Lot of John Hendry Park has been approved.
Thank you to everyone who signed our petition and told their friends and family of our need for support. In consultation with the Park Board, City staff and the community we will work to make this a great event for everyone!
In order to make this as smooth a transition as possible, we are encouraging folks to walk, bike or take transit to the market as much as possible to limit the parking issues in the neighbourhood. If it is necessary for you to drive, we ask that you park outside the neighbourhood and walk in.
More details about the market and tips for getting in and out with ease will be following soon. We invite everyone to come to opening day – May 8th, 9am – 2pm at the new location and spread the word!
All market dates, times and locations are available on our website at http://www.eatlocal.org/markets.html
If you have any questions about this new location, please contact the office at 604-879-3276.

Great Day Bokashi – Garage / Production / Storage space wanted
I need a work space to make a compost accelerating product known as bokashi. During the low-heat drying process the smell of molasses fermentation [like beer, bread etc] is released which can be reduced by venting it to the outside air. This odour is strongest for the first 24 – 36 hours and diminishes quickly after that.
All my equipment and supplies can fit into approx. 100sq ft if I can use up to 10ft of vertical space. Compensation to be negotiated. If you have space or know someone who does, please contact me

Our honey is chemical and GE free, unpasteurized and pure, direct from the bees to you. We only harvest the surplus leaving the bees what they need to flourish.

You Say Tomato. They Say Phony.
New Hybrids Promise Same Flavor, Less Fuss; Heirloom Lovers Stew
Anne Marie Chaker, The Wall Street Journal
In the kingdom of vegetables, the heirloom tomato is high nobility. Genetically unchanged from one generation to another, it offers an intense flavor prized by gardeners and gourmets.
But it has a reputation for being persnickety in the garden. While modern hybrids are tweaked and improved to resist common diseases, the old stalwarts seem to easily succumb to pathogens that can cause plants to suddenly wilt just as they seem ready to produce.
Now, as gardeners prepare to plant this summer’s crop, a number of plant breeders are offering hybrids they claim have the distinct flavors and funky looks of heirlooms but are more disease-resistant and abundantly productive. Read on…
