Vancouver Opera Festival starts tomorrow

Vancouver Opera Festival launches with performances of Rossini’s La Cenerentola in the afternoon and Gounod’s Faust in the evening. On Sunday, there is a free Party on the Plaza featuring a full day of music, performances, and fun. The 3rd annual Festival aims to engage, inspire, and entertain our community over nine days through voice, music, theatre, and the visual arts. Explore fairy tales and fables from around the world.
The River of Light—a world premiere of a monumental work
A large-scale work for chorus, soloists, and orchestra. Conceived by Brian Current, one of Canada’s most outstanding composers. Featuring conductor Leslie Dala, the Vancouver Bach Choir, the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, and soloists Caitlin Wood and Martin Renner Wallace.
Chamber Music Series—short performances inspired by fairy tales and fables
Five short performances of chamber music inspired by fairytales and fables. Featuring musicians from the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and invited guests from our mainstage shows.
Opera Off-Site—lively opera-themed events in Mount Pleasant
Opera Off-Site starts at Main Street Brewing Co with a free performance by Tina Chang and Barbara Towell. After that it’s over to the Fox Cabaret for a screening of Faust (1926) with live accompaniment by Chris Gestrin. Closing out the evening at the Fox is Fenlon & Fenlon—Rachel Fenlon’s acclaimed one-woman liederabend.
