Stop Bouncing Around – Get The Right Sports Bra With Diane’s Lingerie

Diane’s Lingerie Gift With Purchase – Anita Panty & Sports Bag with Any Anita Sports Bra until January 28, 2017

Diane’s Lingerie has been my go to for bras every since I discovered them a few years ago. The bra fitter is an expert and checks to  guarantee you’ve got the right fit. Don’t be shy, the health of your breasts is at stake here, and a good bra can make the difference in looking just okay in an outfit, or looking spectacular.

Diane's Lingerie

I just bought an excellent supportive day to day lacy bra (Melody by Empreinte) before Christmas and it’s made a world of difference.  I know boobs as I’m well beyond a C-cup and need support while torpedoing through the day at top speed and when heading out on the town in a fitting garment, or even a loose one. Proper bras not only put breasts in the right place, but also prevent stretching of connective breast tissue and restrict movement that can cause back, shoulder & neck pain.

It’s even more important to wear a well-fitting, high quality sports bra as our bodies and breasts move far more when we’re active. I’m moving lots lately and needed to update mine, so don’t forget that they don’t last forever. Our breasts are made up of fatty tissue surrounded by skin and fragile ligaments. Ligaments can be broken down over time and they won’t bounce back and good bras prevent this. You also need fabrics that allow your skin to breathe and generally support your body, all which will enhance your workout routine.

Diane's Lingerie

There are a number of great bras at Diane’s Lingerie and I just picked up the Anita Momentum Sports Bra. Bonus deal, until January 28 you’ll also receive a free sports bag and panties. AND they super lovely looking too, in fact mine is bright red! Sorry no pictures, but I’m training pretty hard right now, so you never know, I might do some modeling later in the year (ah…right). Do make sure you go expecting to spend a little time trying on a few and don’t be shy when it comes to receiving help from the consultant. They know their stuff here and I guarantee they have seen so many breasts they won’t be judging anything but the bras fit!

Rush Hair Salon – Where My Hair Gets Glam!

Rush Hair Salon Arbutus Walk

Rush Hair Salon opened about a year and half ago at 2652 Arbutus, between 10th and 11th Avenue. Those who follow me know that a. this is my neighbourhood, and b. my hair and I are in a constant struggle to look like something other than a cast member of Fraggle Rock. Having a salon in the neighbourhood that gets me, and is not overly pricey is exactly what I need.
Rush Hair Salon
Stacy Minkova and Susie Vo opened Rush Hair Salon after they met at Sukis in Richmond and wanted to start something new and more community based.
rush hair salon
I see Stacy there and she’s more than just someone that does my hair, she’s the kind of stylist that fixes my hair issues and is also happy to weigh in on many other decisions I throw her way. We’ve become friends and it’s always great to catch up with her, while getting my hair done. It’s like having a favourite bartender, but you leave looking better, not worse!
 img 0157
It’s a small salon with that personal touch; there are four people there for now, Stacy, Susie and William do haircuts and styles and Ester does only colour. They are experts on colour here, I’ve had a more few things done now over and above the grey touch ups and I’ve come out looking fab and my hair is far from easy to get right! My latest is the highlights pictured below, Stacy took my hair from black to this much softer colour.  As a bonus their hair products are sulfate-free and never tested on animals; they carry Bumble and Bumble, La Biosthetique and Pureology.

If you’re looking for something less corporate, while still getting top of the line treatment, do check Stacy and the team out.
Just look at the difference they can make! LOL. That’s Stacy and I having some fun as we always do!

Fitness Fridays – On Cloudflyer Runners

The On Running Shoes were recommended and I’ve been super happy with my choice. These shoes are lighter, while still providing more cushioning, and I felt the impact decrease while still feeling stable. I’ve been running faster ever since, no lie!
On CloudFlyer Runners
I’ve got the Cloudflyer runner ($179.99) which is great for all types of runners looking for a supremely cushioned and stable shoe that retains a light and agile running feel and weighs only 9.8 oz. The science behind the sole is that when you hit the ground, the highly rubber elements cushion both vertical and horizontal forces for a soft landing. Once on the ground, the Clouds lock firm to provide a solid foundation for a natural and powerful takeoff.  I’m now training regularly and feel super suported. Watch for more on running from me in 2017 as I up my mileage and test out more equipment.

RYU High Tech Fitness Wear

RYU – Made By Athletes For Althetes

What’s Canadian and rhymes with “You”? Well RYU active wear of course, a new brand that takes athletic technology to the next level.

I first experienced RYU in bag form with their Daily Duffle, billed as “The Gym Bag, Reinvented”, which keeps its shape whether empty or full and opens wide for easy access. It’s surprisingly roomy, given the small size and there’s even an external zippered pocket to put frequently used items in and four internal pockets to organize all that stuff.

ryu duffel

RYU stands for “Respect Your Universe” and there are lots of recycled elements used in production, even coffee grinds which enable the material to dry faster.

ryu4

As I ramp up my running this fall I’m going to invest in their functional sports bras, some outer ware and perhaps a pair or two of the  TriLayr™ hi-rise fit toughtights that wrap around the waistband for 360° core support. At the moment things are jumping around too much and I need too must adjusting, which completely distracts me from my speed training, as I’m sure you’d imagine! Plus I’m told the bacteriostatic carbon mesh lined diamond gusset will allow me to go commando. Don’t look too closely please as I run by, but then again, I’m likely going to be going too fast for you to determine what’s on under there.

Find the storefront at 1745 West 4th, Vancouver or online.

Please not these are not pictures of me. I’ll get there soon though. :o) Happy sprucing up y’all!

Face Mapping with Dermalogica

Face Mapping Skin Analysis – Prescription For Skincare

Do you ever fall asleep without taking off your make-up or neglect your skincare routine? I have to admit I sometimes get so busy and tired that I fall asleep on the couch, later crawling into bed and neglect my skincare. Once in a while I have to kick-start my self-care, so I do a check in at a spa for a facial and take some me time.

My latest facial was at Demalogica’s training center where I tried out their the newish technique, based on ancient practices, Face Mapping.

derb4

Face Mapping® is Dermalogica’s unique skin analysis that provides insight into your skin’s past and present, and with the information gathered, the technician prescribes a home care regime crafted especially for your skin.

Rather than analyzing the skin in general terms, the therapist uses Face Mapping® to divide the face into fourteen zones. Each zone is examined inch-by-inch through touch and sight, and findings are notated on a prescription sheet. The sheet serves as a customized visual guide, and notes conditions including congestion, breakouts, dehydration, and/or hyper-pigmentation are present.

My biggest concerns are aging (damn wrinkles), rosacea and the occasional blackheads and whiteheads (yuck!!). My therapist, Cory mapped my face and came up with suggestions for skin care in the “UltraCalming” line of skin care. I’ve been using the UltraCalming cleanser, UltraCalming Sensitive Tint with SPF30, and a Microfoliant to prevent the skin from clogging and my skins doing a ton better. I still have issues with rosacea and broken capillaries, but I think that will take some laser treatments to deal with, such as IPL or some sort of zapping. Looking into that.

Dermalogica

Face Mapping® is only available from Dermalogica skin care professionals at authorized skin treatment centers, salons and spas worldwide. Want to get mapped? Find your nearest location here.

Back to School With Value Village

The #IGiveAShirt Campaign By Value Village

This back-to-school shopping season, Value Village is challenging people to come together to save 700 million gallons of water through one simple act: replacing one new t-shirt purchase with a thrifted one. If Value Village gets 1 million people to choose a thrifted t-shirt in place of a new one, it’ll be the equivalent of saving over 1,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools full of water, before the first bell rings.
People can show off their thrifted tees and support this effort by using the hashtag #IGiveaShirt.

Back-to-School Savings

The National Retail Federation reported that parents plan to spend over $360 on clothing and shoes in 2016 – but there’s no need to spend that much. Knowing how quickly kids go through clothing, shoes, books and toys, shoppers choosing thrift help the environment and their pocketbook too. In fact, shoppers can save 70-90 percent on back-to-school basics compared to other retailers, with a full wardrobe for $100 or less. 96 percent of all items sold at Savers are priced under $10 and the average sale price of items in the kids section are $3.00.

Value Village

I checked out Value Village recently and here’s what $50 got me! Three brand new-to-me outfits! img 7657

Here’s me out on the farm with Chef Chris Whittaker in my newly acquired wares.

Thrift Shopping Tips

  • Never have an expectation for finding a certain item, keep an open mind. You might go in for a dress and come out with an awesome top instead.
  • While you’re thrift hunting, look for timeless pieces. Denim, cashmere and silk are fabrics that will never go out of style and can be purchased secondhand for much less than buying new! Also keep in mind that interesting prints are always a fun trend to incorporate and Savers is the perfect place to find those unique pieces.
  • Browse a department you wouldn’t usually shop in and don’t limit yourself to size. Some of the best blazers, cardigans and shirts for women can be found in the men’s or boy’s departments. Interesting fashions can also be found by taking something in a larger size and adding a belt.
  • Get creative and look beyond the clothing that is right in front of you. A little DIY magic can give just about any secondhand clothing item a fresh breath of new life. You can take a skirt or men’s shirt, add a belt and you have a brand new dress!
  • Wear something simple, such as flats, leggings and a tank top so that you can try items on as you shop.
  • When in doubt—grab it, and try it on. You never know!
  • Don’t be shy and look closely at clothing and accessory items so that you can get a sense of the quality and craftsmanship. For example, look for textiles made in the USA, Canada, Italy and Spain – known for high quality fabrics and leather goods.
  • Thrift shopping is always better with friends! Bring a few shopping buddies and make it a competition to see who picks up the best hidden thrift treasure.

Wedding Woes and Hopes of Winning a Wedding in The Bahamas

Winning a Wedding in the Bahamas

We got engaged in December and now we are focusing on wedding plans and were aiming for the fall or spring. A contest came up and now we were trying our hand at Winning A Wedding in the Bahamas; you may have noticed since we were shamelessly plugging this all over social media.

Unfortunately some of the other couples have  an amazing amount of votes and while some are legit and we tip our hat to them, it’s been discovered there has been some manipulation of the system. The whole thing is giving me a stomach ache, but it’s being looked into we have been told.

FINAL UPDATE

Due to the fact that there seems to be far too many issues with the voting and our most of our fans/friends had given up voting when it seemed like something was wrong, we are withdrawing from this contest. Even if it does get fixed, which I know that Travel Bahamas is working hard to do and have been communicating with us along the way, we don’t feel comfortable pushing anymore. Thank you all so much for your support and we look forward to sharing our wedding plans with you all. We wish all other contestants good luck and we thank the Travel Bahamas for considering us.

UPDATE MAY 30….

Today’s Bahamas update is…..
Bahamas Tourism called first thing this morning and said their techs had fixed our issue of votes going to another couple and they are aware that many people have manipulated the system and are looking into that and may have to roll back other couples votes. We haven’t even been voting ourselves or pushing it anymore as we weren’t even sure where the votes for us were going and we are just exhausted from the whole process, but they have promised they are looking into it so please do vote again. They’ve added a captcha.

Update again! AND now a lot of people are telling me their code doesn’t work and they’ve tried a few times. Lovely.
http://bahamas16weddings.com/

UPDATE May 28…..
It is clear there is some technical glitch in the voting as I have heard from many people that they could vote many many many….times in a row for me and for other people (no one was cheating here, just testing the system) AND yesterday votes for me were going to another couple. I hope they sort this out and I have let them know.
In the meantime I am very much in love with Michael Smith and I don’t really care when and where we wed as long as we are together. #truelove
Appreciate y’all so much! Will advise what’s up as soon as we know.

Click here if you haven’t voted today and please vote each and every day until June 10 and we’d be ever so grateful. You can vote once every 24 hours so it’s a lot to ask we know. BUT…..please?

How the contest works is the 16 people out of the 20 couples listed will get to travel to the Bahamas and on November 16, 2016 all get married on different Islands. We were picked to be in the top 20 out of about 400 that applied by picking an Island that we would like to get married on and then creating a story of why we picked the Island and including the theme of the Island in as well. We picked Eleuthera and wrote the following. (please  vote! //bahamas16weddings.com/

“We’d love to celebrate our love on Eleuthera in true barefoot lovers style with our toes buried deep into the pink sand! The name Eleuthera is derived from the Greek word for free, which is the way we both feel when we are together; united as one, but free to be ourselves. We’re also huge fans of pineapples (you should see Cassandra’s toe nail polish right now) and as the Island is known as the pineapple capital of the world, we would welcome our guests to a pineapple-themed wedding; especially fitting as pineapple is the symbol for hospitality. We can think of some amazing pineapple cocktails, pineapple floral arrangements, and pineapple details tastefully woven into our wedding outfits. We’d truly be thrilled to celebrate our love in style in the Bahamas!”

The winner’s flights will be paid for as is accommodation for 6 days , the ceremony, videographer and a rehearsal dinner and wedding dinner for people Our families and friends that will join do have to get down there themselves and cover accommodation but they are keen to get away so I know that they are rooting for us and will pack there bags to be there! PLEASE help us by just clicking on the link and then voting for the couple 5 down on the right! That’s us above as you probably know if you read this blog.  //bahamas16weddings.com/

resort

So this is the big excitement this week and we can’t even think of anything else at the moment.  I am working on getting wedding-dress ready and have started running again and am using www.getfitz.ca to check out some fitness classes! It’s so hard in this business where food and drink is all around me.

So the shoes and the dress and the invites can wait for now. We’ve just got to get the venue down and you know you can help by voting!

Also I’ve started a pinterest board of wedding ideas!

Our favourite looks are by The Couture Company out of the UK.

And Michael would look pretty darn handsome in this vest combo!

BUT for a tropical wedding??  (gotta manifest this) We may have to rethink? If you have any ideas, please comment below as I’d love to hear.

IN the meantime lease vote  daily and we thank you so mucho! http://www.bahamas16weddings.com/

GLV Spring Look Book

I am not a fan of shopping, unless it’s for food or cooking utensils, but I have a few spots I have found that I can head to and not leave in tears, and that’s basically my current approach to fashion. So, in the hopes of reducing some tears of other non-shoppers out there, I’m sharing a few of my spring finds. I’ve bought a few of these and am coveting the others. These are all body flattering outfits as that is the number one concern around these parts!

Here’s my fav’s that work for me right now!

Wedding Count Down – Skin Prep at Vital Wellness/Margo Dalinghaus

Wedding Count Down Is On

After attending the wedding of my very good friends this past weekend, I am suddenly acutely aware that I better get planning my own! We’re going to be covering a few things in our new wedding count down series.

Dhillon Giesbrecht

My amazing friend, Summer Dhillon, looked like royalty alongside her king, Patrick Giesbrecht, and I am sure she had a few facials and make-up sessions along the way, and I had better ask her for some pre-wedding advice soon, but I fear I need far more sprucing, and I’ve got to put a plan in place.

stress free wedding planning

There is lots to do, as every bride knows, in order to get to that day feeling you’ve put you are at your best. I haven’t even really picked a date or location, but we’re looking at February of 2017 or November or August 2016! and likely Mexico  Bahamas or Kelowna. This changes daily it seems. It’s a way out (or not!) but I have a big list, including fitness and weight loss goals, skin primping, finding a wedding dress (yikes), wedding rings, and then of course day of hair, make up, jewelry and nails. AND all the logistics of day of, of course, but that seems like the easy part!

Wedding Stress

Beauty starts from the inside out, as they say, so I’ve been to Vital Wellness Clinic before for some fantastic nutritional advice from the lovely Patti Smyth, had some check ins and therapy with Rebekkah Stainton, reflexology with Coko Mayuko, and Qi Gong with Caroline MacGillivray. The clinic is also a full medical clinic with family physician and nurses, and you can actually schedule your drop-in appointments; super handy.

margo

The latest addition to the team is Margo Dalinghaus, a Hormone and Aesthetic Registered Nurse, who has been trained by, and has trained some of the best Injectors from around the globe. Her style is “less is more” and her goal is to restore ones natural beauty, so I wasn’t afraid of leaving with lips that looked like they’d been hit by a frying pan, when I decided to have some touch ups done.

I went for a soft lift which combines the use of neuromodulators (similar to botox)  and dermal fillers.  Fillers were injected in and around my lips and in my cheeks.

Margo describes the treatment as such:

Neuromodulators typically work in the upper fact to relax muscles by preventing the release of acetylcholine which is responsible for muscle contraction. As the muscles around the frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead relax, moderate to deeper lines soften for a refreshed appearance. Dermal fillers are used in combination with the neuromodulators (Botox) to replace volume. With volume loss we lose hyaluronic acid and hydration – so, shadows and deflations can make us look more tired than we actually feel. Replacement of lost volume with dermal fillers improves hydration and also plumps up the skin from the inside out so that the skin is moisturized and smoother to reflect light and radiance. As shadows are reduced with replaced volume, skin appears more harmonious and fresh.

Both neuromodulators and dermal fillers are corrective treatments and do need to be repeated – Botox, every three months, and fillers every 9-12 months depending on product and how you metabolize it.

The neuromodulator used are Xeomin and a botulinum toxin type A, just like Botox, but it is known to be cleaner and produce less side effects. If used regularly every 3-4 months, you can soften the muscles on the upper face to prevent the formation of deeper lines in the face.

Cassandra Anderton

Since I have been in December I have received huge compliments on my improved looks and been described by my friends by the word glowing, over and over.

Caroline MacGillivray

Caroline MacGillivray on vital silks (she teaches this too).

Vital Wellness even had a party to announce their new services and invited some local VIP’s to help spread the news. There’s another one coming up soon, and I can’t wait to hear what they are unveiling next.

Wedding Planning

Do note that there was some bruising, which sometimes happens, so be sure to leave lots of time before the big day for this treatment. Wedding count down is on! Now to work on that fitness and weight loss. At least there’s hiking and biking on my next trip; I’m off tomorrow to California wine country!
