Vista D’oro Farms – Pop-Up Preservatory at 843 East Hastings Vancouver

vista d'oroThe preserves, chocolate and macarons are perfect for gifts and for entertaining this holiday season! GLV

The artisanal preserves and ‘friends’ are the featured attraction at the weeklong Pop-up Preservatory –  until November 24th.  Vista D’oro  chose the location as the ultimate venue with the perfect neighbours – Les Amis du Fromage and just down the road from Gourmet Warehouse!

The preserves will be available alone or in one of the five, about to be launched, ‘Trio’ packs; The Entertainer, The Bachelor, The Mixologist, The Sweet Tooth and The Epicurean. Each checkered ‘Trio’ pack comes with three (no kidding) preserves and inside each is a three-course ‘menu’ with recipes for each. A few collaborative items will also be available in the Pop-Up Preservatory, among them; Soirette’s Vin de Noix Macaroons – made with the farms flagship fortified walnut wine D’oro; Chocolate Arts’ exclusive Vista D’oro creations each incorporating either a wine or preserve from the farm; and Lavender Sugar for Lavender Eight Farm in South Langley.

If you can’t make it to the Pop-up Preservatory, you can still head to farm at Vista D’oro in South Langley at Campbell Valley Park and find those same ‘fancy jams’ and of course taste the wines and hang out with the resident wine dogs, Paris & Chablis.

Vista D’Oro – News from the farm

Happy Spring! Finally! We’ve had crazy weather this past month, from hail storms to days of such heat, that the greenhouse was (almost) unbearable, but at long last it looks like spring is here to stay!

Funny but the above was cut and pasted from last May’s newsletter and it applied to this May as well!! Really hoping that the blue sky I see out the window today lasts until October !!

Lots of excitement around the farm the last few months to tell you about. First and foremost…we’ve moved!! Well not really, but the Farmgate Shop & Tasting Room has. We’ve renovated the original farmhouse on the property to the west of us, you’ll now be entering in off of 208th Street (no more pot holes!!) We’ve also just received our ‘Picnic License’ from the LCLB, more on that below. Tugboat Media is putting the finishing touches on our new website, can’t wait to see the finished product; and last, and most importantly we’ve added to our team, more Vistadorian’s to welcome you to the farm, be sure to say ‘hi’ to Kenzi & Benedict when you stop by!

The original farmhouse reno’s are complete (mostly) and we’ve moved the cheese cooler in! Our new Farmgate Market & Tasting Room is now located at 346 – 208th Street (right next to the old Dairy Barn) come see the finished result…

Our new hours are…

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and SUNDAY!! 11am until 5pm

This is the fifth year Vista D’oro Farms has organised this fundraiser where 100% of the proceeds go to BC Children’s Hospital.  Last year the event raised $10,000, bringing the total raised to over $40,000.

Vista D’oro Farms calls on Santa’s Baker Elves, otherwise known as Lower Mainland Chefs & Bakers, to bake cookies to fill the Cookie tins.  The red tins also include a jar of Vista D’oro Artisanal Preserves.   So far, this years’ elves include:  Au Petit Chavignol, Beyond Restaurant, Chef Ann Kirsebom, Culinary Capers, Krause Berry Farms, Northwest Culinary Academy of Vancouver, O’Doul’s Restaurant & Bar, Pane e Formaggio, Pastry Training Centre of Vancouver, Pourhouse Restaurant, Raincity Grill, and the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts, who are also donating time and space to help assemble the tins this year.

Vista D’oro Farms will take orders for the cookie tins with a minimum donation of $50 per tin. There is a limited number of tins available and 100% of all proceeds go to BC Children’s Hospital, supporting their oncology program and contributing towards state of the art equipment.

“At Christmas time especially, we are reminded how fortunate we are” says Lee Murphy, Owner & President of Vista D’oro Farms, “we need to remember the many children and their families who celebrate their Christmas in hospitals.”

Cookie tins can be ordered through Vista D’oro Farms at 604-514-3539 or email info@vistadoro.com and are available for pick up after December 9, 2010 at the farm or at Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts @ Granville Island.

Winery News

2009 Pinot Noir

The 2009 Pinot Noir is ready! Well, it’s almost ready! The labels are ordered, the bottles are full and waiting, we just need to get out our glue sticks and put it all together.   We’ll have it all ready in time for our Holiday Open House on December 1st, so come by to pick up a bottle or two for the holidays.

We are thrilled with how the wine turned out. Light and delicate, this pinot will easily handle all of your holiday entertaining.   Patrick had fun with this wine, and give him a few minutes and he’ll gladly share his favourite stories of the winemaking process with you.

There are 180 cases of the 2009 Pinot Noir available, and the cost is $21.50 a bottle.

2009 Marechal Foch

Dark and inky, our Marechal Foch has been a labour of love, and are we ever in love!  Named after a French war hero, our Foch is intense and full bodied, and will match beautifully with a prime rib or anything rich and mushroomy!   Can one say “mushroomy”? Why not?

This is a serious red, so much so that we even considered putting a warning on the label – “Caution – drinking this wine will significantly decrease your pearly white smile!”   You’re best to have a toothbrush on hand for after you’re done this delicious wine!

There are 75 cases of the 2009 Marechal Foch available, and the cost is $22.50 a bottle.
As always, we are pleased to offer a trio of Vista D’oro Artisanal Preserves
with every case of wine purchased, a $22 value.

Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am until 4pm.

We will be open until December 18th and re-opening February 3rd

We have filled our beautiful Vista D’oro branded wooden wine crates and holiday gift boxes to suit all budgets and we are also happy to customize for you. We have Moccia Salami back in the cooler, perfect for easy entertaining!

Farmgate Open House

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, December 1st, from 6-9 pm!   Our annual open house promises to be an exciting evening with  wine and preserves sampling and more. Best of all, 10% off all purchases at the Farmgate shop.

Sample the newly released 2009 Pinot Noir and 2009 Marechal Foch and look for them in the holiday gift boxes.  We also have a great selection of preserves in stock now.  The jars are just the right size to be a perfect replacement for that mandarin orange in the toe of holiday stockings!

Some great gift ideas for those both naughty and nice on your list include:

  • a selection of Farm House cheese with our Orchard Pear & Cocoa Nib preserve
  • A jar from the new batch of Chili Pepper Jam with Lesley Stowe’s Raincoast Crisps
  • D’oro, our flagship fortified walnut wine which is a blend of Marechal Foch, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, brandy and our own Vista D’oro Farms’ green walnuts
  • Gift packs of 2 or 6 assorted Vista D’oro artisanal preserves

We are gladly accepting a $10 donation at the door – all proceeds will go to BC Children’s Hospital along with the funds from our Cookies for Kids (see below!).

Once again Vista D’oro Farms has called on all Santa’s Baker Elves to bake a few extra cookies for our 5th Annual ‘Operation – Cookies for Kids’.  Our friends in the food industry will be donating cookies & baking to fill our Cookie Tins, also included in each tin is a jar of Vista D’oro Artisanal Preserves.
The Cookie Tins are sold for a minimum $50 donation, 100% of which will go directly to B.C. Children’s Hospital. The Cookie Tins will ready for pickup at our farmgate shop on December 9th – 11th.
