News from Vista D’Oro

Where did the summer go? It takes forever to arrive and in a flash it’s gone!

We’ve been busy preserving all the fruit of the summer and are looking forward to harvesting the beginnings of fall starting with Italian Prune Plums this week.

The heirloom tomatoes are now ripening in abundance and are available at the Farmgate Shop! Keep the summer alive with colourful tomatoes atop fresh salads or in an easy no cook pasta sauce – recipe here.

We’ve also created a limited release, Heirloom Tomato & Bacon jam, only available at the farm, delicious on a fried egg sandwich!

Upcoming Events & Tastings

Providence Farm in the Cowichan Valley will host the 2010 Chefs Congress on September 11th and 12th. Tastings, workshops and seminars will focus on sustainability and renewable resources. David Suzuki will be the keynote speaker for this exciting and informative event.

On Sept 19th, Lee will be a judge for the Great B.C. Bake Off contest at BBQ on the Bypass. Thirty teams will compete for Best BBQ in the midst of live music, kids’ activities and many exiting vendors.

Taste and cast your vote! 60 VQA wineries will join 12 top BC restaurants for Chef Meets Grape on September 23rd at the Vancouver Convention Centre West.

Vista D’oro – Winery Updates

The 2009 Gewurztraminer and 2009 Rosa are now available. The Gewurtzraminer, (hard to say, easy to love) is perfect with a spicy dinner or well-chilled on its own. The Rosa pairs nicely with the abundance of sockeye we are all enjoying right now!

A warning – we are down to the last ten cases of 2008 Merlot and three cases of 2008 Pinot Noir. Don’t miss out!

Keep an eye out for our 2008 Syrah and 2008 Murphy’s Law Barrel Reserve. We are busy bottling now so both will be available in late October.

We are now signing up members for our Vista D’oro Farm Club! Download the application form for more information or to register now for a one-year membership and you will receive four collections of wine and seasonal jams, beginning this month. As a member you will enjoy many other benefits including discounts, priority selections and special event invites!
