The second Canadian Oyster Wine Pairing Competition sponsored by BC Food and Wine Trails Magazine, Codfather’s Seafood Market, Flavours Magazine, and Watermark Beach Resort was held April 24, 2014 in Osoyoos, British Columbia. The Canadian Oyster Wine Competition follows in the footsteps of the American Pacific Coast Oyster Wine Competition, created by Jon Rowley of Seattle’s Taylor Shellfish Farms. The Osoyoos Oyster festival is held each year in the heart of the wine country.
The competition saw over 120 entries divided into eight categories and was open to all wineries in Canada. The competition also included a “Wild Card” category open to any wine produced with 100% Canadian ingredients.
Judges for the second annual Canadian Oyster Wine Competition were Rhys Pender, Master of Wine www.wineplus.ca; Tim Pawsey, Vancouver food and wine critic, publisher/editor www.hiredbelly.com, Audrey Surrao, WSET certified and co-owner www.raudz.com; Brad Cooper, winemaker, Katherine McEachnie, AIWS, CSW, FSW, Wine Specialist & Judge; Mike Lee, AIWS, FWS and Winery Sommelier and John Schreiner, Canada’s most prolific writer of books on wine.http://johnschreiner.blogspot.ca.
