Take a turn through the swing and sparkle of the Roaring Twenties on July 18, when Joy Road Catering presents An Evening
of Effervescence
at Linden Gardens in Kaleden, in the South Okanagan.
Perhaps best known for their magical Alfresco Vineyard Dinners held at the top of God’s Mountain just outside of Penticton, Joy Road owners Cameron Smith and Dana Ewart have gained a following for their own Okanagan brand of cuisine du terroir. Named in Western Living’s Top 40 Foodies Under 40, they’ve been featured in national and international media, including a feature in Maclean’s magazine last week. The pair is in high demand at the Penticton Farmer’s Market and has recently made headlines for their new Joy Road Vineyard Kitchen, operated from a shipping container at Black Hills Winery.
This summer, the dynamic chefs take a Charleston-styled step into the lavish Gatsby era — think glittery art deco décor, dapper suits and flapper dresses, live music, and of course, Joy Road’s own spectacular food paired with sparkling wine from the region’s best producers.
“The Okanagan does sparkling wine really well. We do so many different varieties,” says Ewart. “We’re looking forward to showcasing all of our favourites: Blue Mountain, Elephant Island, Sumac Ridge, Orofino, Bella, 8th Generation, Therapy Vineyards and Haywire.” Joy Road dishes, crafted to pair perfectly with each wine, will be offered at food stations set up throughout the gardens. Guests can expect to sample sublime local ingredients like Outlandish Shellfish and Northern Divine organic caviar, all paired perfectly with a glass of sparkling. “Bubbles are great for food pairing opportunities,” she adds. “And life is short. We should be celebrating with bubbles more often!”
Entertainment will include a swing band and an exhibit of vintage cars, and guests are encouraged to dress up in their finest Great Gatsby style. An Evening of Effervescence takes place July 18, from 6:30 – 9:30, at Linden Gardens in Kaleden. Tickets are $99 (plus GST).
Guests who purchase tickets by June 30 will be entered to win two seats at Joy Road’s sold-out Alfresco Dinner on God’s Mountain on July 17, featuring LaStella Winery. The prize will include a night of accommodation at God’s Mountain Estate, and a private tour of Joy Road Catering.
