Alpine Wine FestivalHead to Mt. Washington for the weekend and check out the annual Alpine Wine Festival at Raven Lodge on Friday, August 8th, 2014 and a Wine Pairing Dinner on August 9th

ALPINE WINE FESTIVAL – Friday, August 8th, 2014

From 6-9pm, guests will taste a variety of wine while interacting directly with the vintners and local distributors.

Tickets to Friday evenings Wine Festival are $25 per person and this includes 10 tasting tickets and souvenir wine glass. Additional tokens are available for $1 each.

All net proceeds from the Wine Festival go to the Vancouver Island Mountain Centre.

A delicious gourmet BBQ dinner will be available in the courtyard at an additional cost. Enjoy it all along with the sound of live music and stunning mountain views.

BBQ Dinner:

  • Main Entrees; 8oz New York Steak, Supreme Chicken Breast, Filet of Salmon
  • Salad Choices; Tossed House Greens, Spinach & Strawberry Salad, Fresh Potato & Yam salad
  • Sides; Rice Pilaf, Green Bean Almondine

Return transportation from Courtenay is available via online registration for the event. Priority seating goes to those who register online! Buses leave at 5:15pm sharp from the A&W parking lot, 2840 Cliffe Ave, Courtenay and will arrive at the Raven Lodge at 6pm.

CHEF BIO

Daniele Mereu grew up at his family’s farm and vineyard in the Province of Asti in the Piedmont Region of North Italy where his father Cosimo and his mother Celestina grew Barbera and Moscato grapes. This is where Daniele’s passion for food and wine was born , and where he received his initial introduction to the hard work involved in the production of excellent ingredients and products.

Further up he took his passion for wine into professional kitchens and pursued two complementary careers. He had consulted many restaurants regarding the projection of their kitchens, their food preparation, their food safety (HACCP) and the effects of nutritional content of food. Daniele has more than twenty years of experience cooking around the World, where on a Cruise Ship or at some of the best Restaurants in Europe or at one of the best Winery of Sicily (www.Planeta.en).

In 2007 he graduated with full marks from the University of Gastronomic/Food Science of Pollenzo, Cuneo Italy near Turin. This was the first University of it’s kind, and it opened to the World in 2004. It was founded by the SlowFood movement in collaboration with the Regions of Piedmont and Emilia Romagna. He now lives back in Victoria BC with his lovely family of 4 kids and his girlfriend Katie, still growing vegetables, making wine and cider ( from real fruit) and conducting cheese classes and wine tasting around Vancouver Island.

And , of course, he works for Sysco Victoria as a Culinary Specialist and Product Developer and as a Sysco brand Manager.

The Alpine Wine Pairing Dinner features a six-course meal with wine pairing by sommelier Jason Hyde from Peacock and Martin. The Pairing Dinner takes place at the Whiskey Jack banquet room in the Alpine Lodge on Saturday, August 10 at 6pm.
