Elements Film Festival Announces Lineup Featuring International, Canadian and BC Productions, Presentations and Panels Focusing on the Environment

Making its highly anticipated return, the second annual Elements Film Festival will be taking place at TELUS World of Science April 8 – 14 and we’ve got 2 Passes to GIVEAWAY! In collaboration with Science World, this year’s environmental film festival will feature programming for all ages including films, presentations and panel discussions on a broad range of topics impacting our planet. Featuring films from international, Canadian and B.C. filmmakers, the festival provides a platform to experience different points of view on a range of important topics including wildlife conservation, climate change, plastic pollution in our oceans, poaching, habitat loss, invasive species, and environmental law. The theme of this year’s festival is #STAYCURIOUS. By fostering appreciation of environmental and science-based issues, the festival hopes to inspire curiosity and conversation.

The daytime schedules on Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14 will feature a series of family friendly short films on a range of wildlife and conservation topics, as well as feature films in the OMNIMAX Theatre, and topical panel discussions. The evening schedules will include feature film screenings and special presentations.

Special Presentations and Panels

• Thursday, April 11, 7:30pm, Science World Theatre – The screening of Living in the Future’s Past, co-produced by lifelong environmentalist Jeff Bridges and filmmaker Susan Kucera. This visually stunning film reflects on the true cost of fossil fuel energy. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Susan Kucera.
• Friday, April 12, 7:30pm, OMNIMAX Theatre – Join National Geographic Explorer and star of NatGeo’s UNTAMED Filipe DeAndrade for a passionate evening of film and photography. Filipe will share a special presentation detailing his adventures in the Serengeti, the jungles of Costa Rica and the depths of the Pacific Ocean. Filipe will also be doing a matinee presentation on Saturday, April 13 at 12pm for all ages.
• Saturday, April 13, 2:00pm, Science Theatre – Panel Discussion, Our Southern Resident Killer Whales: Do they have a future? Join a panel of experts in discussing the challenges West Coast orcas face and efforts to save them. Moderated by Science World CEO, Dr. Scott Sampson.
• Saturday, April 13, 8:00pm, OMNIMAX Theatre – A decade after delivering his “Legacy Lecture” at The Chan Centre in 2009, Elements presents Force of Nature, a retrospective film that weaves together scenes from the places and events that shaped Dr. David Suzuki’s career, with his enduring message of environmental stewardship. Dr. Suzuki will be sharing opening remarks prior to the screening of the film.
• Sunday, April 14, 2:00pm – Panel Discussion, The Future of Energy. Join expert panelists working in fields that are examining and developing new technologies for the future of energy, learn what is on the horizon and how British Columbians are contributing to the effort. Moderated by Sherry Yano, David Suzuki Foundation.

Daytime films, panels and speakers are included with Science World admission. Evening feature films, speakers and social events are for ages 19+ and require a purchased ticket. Festival passes are also available and include admission to evening programming April 11-13, and daytime admission to TELUS World of Science on April 13 and 14.

April 8-12, the Elements Film Festival invites school groups to TELUS World of Science to screen environmental films and partake in filmmaking activities. Teachers may book their class by contacting Science World.
