BCWAS Tasting Howling Bluff

on

We’re starting 2012 with another great tasting – this winery is one of the best-kept secrets of Naramata, but we think that with all the awards they’ve won, they won’t be “secret” for long. This event will feature two Vertical Tastings!

What is the only wine in BC to have won two Lieutenant Governor Awards of Excellence in British Columbia Wines?

AND 2010 Red Wine of the Year, Access Magazine?

AND Best Red Wines of 2011,Vancouver Magazine?

AND First Place, 25th Annual People’s Choice Award 2009?

You would be right if you said Howling Bluff’s outstanding Pinot Noir.

Howling Bluff also does a memorable Bordeaux-style blend called Sin Cera, made from Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, which has won, among other accolades, 91 points from Wine Diva, Silver Medal from the 2009 Wine Access Canadian Wine Awards, Gold Medal from the 2010 All Canadian Wine Championship, plus two more medals from the 2008 Okanagan Fall Wine Festival and the 2008 Canadian Wine Awards.

Howling Bluff is also, as far as we know, the only Naramata winery to make all their red wines from Naramata grapes. Luke Smith and his son Daniel farm their Summa Quies vineyard themselves. As Luke says, “Daniel and I are in the vineyard every day. Only by personally getting our hands dirty each and every day do we know our vineyard intimately so that we can offer you the finest vintages, year after year”.

To make this a really special evening, Luke is offering us two vertical tastings, one of the Pinot Noir and one of the Sin Cera.

Here are the wines for this sit-down tasting:

Five years of the Pinot Noir:

2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and the unreleased 2010

Four years of the Sin Cera:

2006, 2007, 2008, 2009

These wines are extremely rare – almost impossible to find. You will never get the chance to taste this line-up again, so sign up soon! Space will be limited for this unique event.
