Our Best Holiday Wines for the 2021 Holiday Season
This year is the year we’re back to entertaining outside our bubble and we’re moving along gleefully, with caution! We’ve put together our suggestions for the Best Holiday Wines this year available at Jak’s and on SPUD! Happy holidays and stay safe. Best Holiday Liquor here.
Cuvee Hortense Entre-deux-Mers (Bordeaux, France) 2018 $31.24
Exclusively available at SPUD and JAK’s – This lovely white Bordeaux originates from the Entre-Deux-Mers region and is crafted from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle. It spends 6 months before bottling resting in French oak barrels, resulting in a fresh wine with vibrant acidity. Aromas of spice, minerality, and lemon zest and grapefruit and slightly ripened peach, with hints of toasty oak and vanilla spice on the palate. We’re thinking oysters, scallop ceviche or sushi!
Trevigiana Rose Prosecco (Veneto, Italy) 2020 $27.49
A touch of Pinot Noir is added to the traditional Glera for this delightful sparkling Rosé. Delicately pink in colour this dry sparkling wine has hints of raspberry, red apple, lychee and some floral notes. Creamy peach flavours and red berry fruit on the palate, with zippy acidity. Now I’m REALLY craving oysters.
Grano o Grano Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles, California) 2019 $37.49
Get ready for that steak, or prime rib with this Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon! A full, dark-fruited, silky wine this California beauty has aromas and flavours of ripe cherry, plum, blackberry, vanilla, baking spice and coconut. Capable of some age but drinking nicely with a quick decant now.
CVNE Imperial Rioja Reserva 2015 (Rioja, Spain) $71.49
Crafted from Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano from vines that are forty years plus in age, this ruby red wine has complex aromas of cherry, ripe dark fruits, spice, toffee, roasted coffee, and tobacco notes. The palate is soft with those wonderful deep cherry notes, silky tannins, nice fresh acidity, and a lengthy finish with a caramel aftertaste. Meatballs and patatas bravas in a rich tomato sauce, chorizo, Jamon ham and roast pork would make grand table-fellows.
