The British Columbia Hospitality Foundation (BCHF) is pleased to announce that Derek Vanderheide of Rosewood Hotel Georgia won the cocktail competition at its Dish N’ Dazzle, held on Friday, June 17 2011 at The Fairmont Pacific Rim.  British Columbia bartenders were paired with spirits from the event’s sponsors at the 2nd annual competition, which was a fun and flavourful part of the successful fundraising event.

Each of the bartenders who participated in the competition was assigned a specific liquor as the base for an original cocktail of their creation.  All the participants acquitted themselves admirably, with a range of innovative recipes.  The winning cocktail recipe by Derek Vanderheide is called La Moustaccioli and features Wild Turkey Kentucky Straight Bourbon:

“La Moustaccioli”

  • .75 oz Tuaca Liquore Italiano
  • 1 dash Whisky Barrel-aged Bitters

-stir with ice and strain into a coupette

-garnish with a square of orange peel, dusted with cinnamon

-flamed with orange oil
