Burgers at Hamilton Street Grill

IMG_5927Before Yaletown was abounding with restaurants, a few innovators set up camp in the area that at the time was still fairly industrial. One of the first to open was Chef Neil Wyle’s Hamilton Street Grill at 1009 Hamilton Street and it’s still going strong.

Recently we purchased the Social Shopper Hamilton Street Grill Burger special that features two beef burgers with fries and two sodas available for lunch only. On a rather sunny day we ventured down for patio seating and ordered up these rather monstrous burgers.

The burgers are made from meat ground from a mixture of Certified Angus Beef and Blue Goose Organic Beef from the Cariboo region of BC and served up on a house-baked bun with bacon, cheddar and their Cajun mayo. To say these burgers are good is a massive understatement; they are basically perfect. Thick juicy patties screaming of meaty goodness are topped with a generous portion of bacon and cheese and served with lettuce, tomato and red onion and their signature mayo.  They’re served with a plate of hand cut Kennebec fries, but they are so satisfying I only had room for half and barely any of those delicious fries, quite a shame. You can also add a green or Caesar Salad for $3 but I’d strongly suggest sticking with the fries.

This same burger was judged the best in Yaletown not so long ago and I was on that jury and still remember why.

Service at HSG is efficient and friendly and Chef Wyles is almost always onsite to ensure all’s well in the house and to greet his many regulars who come frequently.
