Celebrate the last of the Cherry Blossoms at Miku Restaurant

Sakura Hanami Feature

Although Vancouver’s captivating blooms of Japanese Cherry Blossoms arrived early this year, there is still time to celebrate with Miku Restaurant’s special Sakura Hanami feature dish.

Translating simply as “flower-viewing”, Miku’s feature item acknowledges the Japanese custom of celebrating the beauty of flowers; a popular activity since the 7th century when aristocrats crafted beautiful poetry, inspired by the blooms. During annual Sakura Festivals in Japan, it is customary to enjoy a feast of small bites and snacks in a picnic style, whether inside a restaurant or out under the Cherry Blossom trees.

Miku’s Sakura Hanami is served in an authentic wooden box and includes a delicious selection of dishes, all with a subtle pink blossom theme: Goma Tofu (house-made sesame tofu with a pink syrup), Avocado Tempura with Sakura Ebi sauce (a sauce made from Dashi with small shrimp), Chiku-Zenni (traditional Japanese stew with burdock and lotus root, fishcake, green beans and daikon) and Futomaki (morsels of sushi filled with cucumber, snow crab and pink cod sugar).

The Sakura Hanami box is complemented by steaming cups of delicate Sakura tea or the more unusual Hanami tea, green tea infused with Ume (Japanese plum) and rose petals.

The Sakura Hanami box is available every evening at Miku Restaurant, from April 1st to 10th, priced at $22.
