If you are oven on Bowen Island be sure to check out this excellent exhibit! GLV
No, this isn’t a recipe for disaster. It’s the title for a new exhibit opening at the Gallery at Artisan Square, 589 Artisan Lane on Bowen Island and these are the materials three artists belonging to the same family have chosen to bring their visions to life. Painter Marjorie Mogridge’s lusciously coloured works – made in the early to mid-20th century before she died in 1989 – surrounded her granddaughter Joanne Mogridge (of Cocoa West Chocolatier) as she grew up. Joanne’s own creative urges began with photography and transferred more than a decade ago to chocolate. Joanne’s husband Carlos Vela- Martinez, a sculptor who has worked with a number of materials including chocolate, now uses polyurethane resin for his work. The exhibit opens on Friday, Oct. 18 and runs until Nov 17. A reception will be held at the gallery on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2-5 p.m. Gallery hours are Friday to Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. For more information, please call the gallery at 604-947-2454.
