CHARCUT Roast House Named One of Canada’s Top Ten New Restaurants by enRoute Magazine

Singled out as the only Prairie restaurant on the coveted list, CHARCUT Roast House shouts-out thanks to enRoute, congratulations to other top-10 winners and a warm welcome to diners yet to discover the downtown Calgary culinary hot-spot.

Televised nationally on CTV’s Canada AM this morning, enRoute Magazine announced the winners of its annual new restaurant awards. Taking a spot on the top-ten list is Calgary’s CHARCUT Roast House. Chef-owners John Jackson and Connie DeSousa along with spouses and business partners Carrie Jackson and Jean-Francois Beeroo are proud to have placed sixth — and to be the only Prairie restaurant — on the list.

“Our thanks to enRoute,” says Jackson. “The thoughtful team behind Air Canada’s award winning magazine and its hotly anticipated restaurant awards issue raises awareness of Canada’s food culture and profession. Our congratulations to the other top-spot holders. Our guests, staff and the farmers, ranchers and artisan producers we work with give CHARCUT its unique energy. Thanks to them.”

“Humbled by the honour, this acclaim is incredibly welcome news for all of us at CHARCUT Roast House,” says DeSousa.

Highlights noted in the magazine include:

“Chefs John Jackson and Connie DeSousa – Prairie-raised, European-trained and American-experienced – bring primal drama to Calgary’s culinary scene at this masculine restaurant.”

“Their version of the Cowtown standby, the prime rib special, sees locally sourced, range-fed beef strung up, smoked, spit-roasted and dripping with jus.”

“If the beer sommelier didn’t keep Charcut grounded, the flexible approach to meat and potatoes would.”
