Cinema Public House Opens on Granville

Donnelly Hospitality Management, the company behind Vancouver’s leading nightclubs and pubs, once again brings its signature style to Granville Street with the opening of Cinema Public House.

Occupying one of the busiest corners in the historic Theatre Row section of the Granville strip’s vibrant entertainment district, Cinema Public House is the newest addition to the Donnelly Pub Group. The venue is DHM Founder and President Jeff Donnelly’s third in the 900 block of Granville Street in downtown, along with popular cocktail lounge the Granville Room and celebrity favourite Republic nightclub.

Progressive, casual, cool and edgy, 148-seat Cinema Public House features indie dance tunes, electro and classics past and present, hosting DJs on Fridays and Saturdays. The lounge is open from 11am seven days a week, closing at 1am Sunday to Thursday, and 2am Friday and Saturday. The bar side is open from 11am – 3am seven nights a week. Cinema is located at 901 Granville Street in Vancouver, BC.

A high-ceilinged foyer leads two ways: circle-cutout double doors lead to the larger lounge side while leather-covered paneling conceals the snaking bench and ottomans of the bar area. The modern rooms, separated late-night by a black velvet curtain, boast subtle hints to the nostalgia of the Theatre Row halcyon days. A large herringbone pattern tile spans the floor, leading to walls finished with black stained and brushed granite oak. ‘Octopus’ chandeliers by De La Espada accentuate light seafoam green chairs of the main dining area, while the bar uses a mirrored drop ceiling and re-purposed desk lamps to achieve the cool, low-light atmosphere that Donnelly Pubs are known for.

Cinema’s innovative pub food is simple, consistent and clean, utilizing fresh local ingredients. The lunch and dinner menu boasts caprese salad with fresh bocconcini, braised short rib poutine, slow roasted Alberta beef sandwich and an organic BC spring salmon burger, while weekend brunch beckons with buttermilk pancakes and classic eggs benedict. On the drinks menu, guests find hand-crafted cocktails created by the Granville Room’s Trevor Kallies, a vast selection of feature whiskeys, several well-priced wines by the glass and a well-rounded selection of draught beer and import bottles.

Helmed by newly appointed, London-born Executive Chef Michael Knowlson (previously of Bacchus and Sequoia Grill), Donnelly Pubs is revamping its menus to offer more inventive and high quality pub fare, utilizing fresh, local and seasonal ingredients.

Donnelly Hospitality Management (DHM) is a creative and diverse management company. DHM owns and operates award-winning nightclubs: Pop Opera, Republic, Bar None, and the Modern; popular pubs: The Bimini, The Calling, The Library Square Public House, Smiley’s Pub, the Lamplighter, the Academic, and Cinema Public House; the popular cocktail lounge The Granville Room, and the Metropole. The company’s attention to detail, impressive entertainment calendars, modern designs, community and charity support, and strict policies on patron safety have earned them a reputation as an industry leader in Vancouver.
