Dine in Whistler, April 25-June 30

Spotlight on talent of 33 chefs and value for visitors during Dine in Whistler, April 25-June 30

They hail from Canada, the USA, India, Europe and Japan, and their interests range from skateboarding, to martial arts, to freestyle skiing. But among the 33 chefs participating in Dine in Whistler from April 25 to June 30, one thing is clear: they all share a passion for exceptional cuisine.

Take Melissa Craig. In a profession traditionally dominated by men, this Red Seal Certified Chef has pushed the culinary bar over her 10-year career, including earning the title of Best Chef in Canada at the Canadian Culinary Championships. Today she leads a team at the Bearfoot Bistro to produce dishes like the Dine in Whistler surf and turf special, with Heritage Angus bavette and tiger prawns for $49.

Over at Edgewater, Executive Chef Chris Shiner is not one to play it safe with cuisine. The Halifax native cut his teeth during an apprenticeship at Mike Wiegele’s renowned heli-skiing resort in Blue River, B.C. Since moving to Whistler, Shiner has used his creativity to develop fresh dishes, including the Dine in Whistler grilled fresh scallops with green pea ravioli for $39.

Sharanjit Kahlon of Tandoori Grill also approaches cooking as an art. Born and raised in India, Kahlon immigrated to Canada in 1986 and got his start working at a restaurant in downtown Vancouver before opening up Tandoori Grill in 1997 to showcase tandoori cuisine. His signature dish for Dine in Whistler is succulent lamb curry simmered with royal Indian spices for $29.

At Flipside Restaurant, Chef Uli Shnur focuses on crafting good, home-made comfort food. Originally hailing for Germany, Uli worked for four Whistler restaurants before opening up his own eatery in 1992 – making a name for himself with dishes like the Dine in Whistler Spaghetti Girlfriend for $19.

Craig, Shiner, Kahlon and Shnur are just four of the 33 extraordinary chefs participating in Dine in Whistler this year. Each chef has a unique background and distinct approach to mixing ingredients and preparing menus.
