About Mead

Mead is often referred to as honey wine, an alcoholic drink made from the fermentation of honey. Mead is considered one of the oldest alcoholic beverages known to mankind and was discovered during pagan times. The term “honeymoon” has been associated with drinking mead during the one month celebration following a marriage ceremony. In addition to the health benefits associated with honey, the Romans believed mead had healing qualities that could lead to longevity. Throughout history there are countless stories of great feasts and celebrations where mead was an important part of ancient rituals. Today there are only a handful of honey farms in Canada that produce mead. http://www.winesofcanada.com/mead.html
