When I was told there was an excellent restaurant inside a Victoria suburb’s bowling alley I was less than convinced. Upon further research I discovered that this spot, The Galloping Goose at Langford Lanes is actually staffed by some pretty high-calibre talent who had previously been at Oru, a restaurant in the Fairmont Pacific in Vancouver – Chad Wilson, Yvonne Lee and Phil Kwong. Things were looking a little different from my initial impression.
The restaurant serves brunch items such as the Galloping Goose Breakfast Bunwich served in a brioche bun, with fried egg, bacon and cheese or the French Toast which is made with coconut milk, caramelized apples and served with and 2 strips of bacon.
Lunch and dinner starters include the deconstructed and delightful waldorf salad, smoked fish and dill chowder which rates at the top of any recent I’ve tried and buttermilk and herb marinated chicken wings.
Mains include their burger, fish and chips and an amazing house-smoked Pulled Pork & Mushroom Ragu with house-made tagliatelle, smoked pulled pork, mushroom, and garlic toast and an excellent Pan Seared Salmon with a lemon tarragon butter sauce atop mashed potatoes.
