Gnarly Head Burger Competition

Who will be the gnarliest of them all? It will remain a mystery until the two Gnarly Head Gnarliest Burger finalists duke it out this coming July.  The 2nd annual Gnarliest Burger recipe competition kicks off May 1st 2011.  Contestants from all over British Columbia will submit their own renditions of a superior burger recipe for their chance to showcase their culinary fortitude at the Grand Finale in Vancouver, BC. Recipes will be judged on their overall gnarly factor: taste, creativity of ingredients and visual appeal.

The judging panel will be comprised of renowned food & wine industry pros:

Erin Ireland, Food Reporter, columnist for Metro Newspaper and Vancouver View Magazine

Judith Lane, BC’s own independent Wine, Food and Travel Writer

Rhonda May, Editor and Publisher of CityFood Magazine and CityFood Online

Kasey Wilson, food and travel writer, and editor of Wine Access Magazine and Best Places Vancouver

“Last year we received exciting and quite creative recipes and I can’t wait to see what this year’s contest brings” said Valerie Fabre,  Marketing at Select Wines & Spirits, the competition organizers. “Contestants are encouraged to try new toppings, show off their ethnic     background or just try something new! We look forward to receiving all recipes.”

The top 10 cook off will take place on July 13, 2011 at a Vancouver culinary institute. Their students will prepare the 10 burgers for the panel of judges who will then determine the final 2 contestants.

On Wednesday July 20, 2011, the two finalists will compete in a royal burger showdown. A public event, the finals will be hosted by Gnarly Head at the “Cambie Kitchen” of the 39th & Cambie Street Liquor Store. The Gnarliest Burger winning recipe will be tasted and chosen life by the panel of judges. The winner will receive a Weber BBQ and their recipe will be featured in TASTE Magazine and on the contest website.

About Gnarly Head

Gnarly Head was launched in 2005 and takes its name from the free standing “head trained” vines found in older California vineyards that provide grapes for the flagship Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel. These 35-80 year old vines have twisted trunks and branches that spread out in all directions sprouting leaves like unruly umbrellas – truly gnarly heads. Gnarly Head wines available in BC are Old Vine Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. www.gnarlyhead.com
