GIB launches Movember campaign, raising and awareness for men’s health

Granville Island Brewing is inviting beer enthusiasts to join them in putting their razors away for the month of November as they roll out their second annual Movember campaign. Held annually across the world, Movember is a moustache-growing charity event raising funds and awareness for men’s health. For the month of November, GIB will donate 25 cents from each 6 pack and 10 cents from each pint of Lions Winter Ale sold to Prostate Cancer Canada.

“Things are about to get pretty ugly around here for a while,” says Granville Island Brewing’s general manager Walter Cosman. “We ran a very successful internal Movember campaign last year – and because we know this is an important issue to many of our consumers and trade partners, we decided to involve them and show our support for the community and mens’ health in a fun way.”

GIB is challenging consumers and partners to join in the effort. GIB’s Twitter and Facebook accounts will be used to host pictures and progress updates of the various “Mo’s” being grown by brewmaster Vern Lambourne and his team. GIB fans can stay updated, post pictures of their own growing efforts and take part in contests with great prizes, while raising funds and awareness for a cause that affects all of us. The fundraising goal for the campaign is $25,000!

Getting its drinkers into the Movember spirit, GIB is including a special ‘Mo’ guide in each specially marked six-pack of Lions Winter Ale. Participating pubs, bars, and restaurants will feature unique die-cut coasters that allow consumers to wear their very own GIB-inspired “Mo” while enjoying a Lions Winter Ale. Bar and restaurant staff will be competing in their own contest to raise funds and grow a “Mo” for charity. At the end of November, GIB will be hosting a shave-off party with special guests to celebrate a month of hard work and monies raised for the Movember Campaign.

Last year’s Canadian Movember campaign was the second largest in the world behind Australia. 35,156 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas came together to raise $7.8 million for Prostate Cancer Canada.

Lions Winter Ale is available at your local liquor store and your favourite pub or restaurant. This November, make your beer purchase count and help GIB raise funds for Prostate Cancer Canada.
