Granville Island Brewing wins three more medals for its Local Flavours

on

Granville Island Brewing is pleased to share their most recent wins at the World Beer Championships for their locally inspired craft beers. Brockton IPA and English Bay Pale Ale scored top honours with gold medals, and 2011 Limited Release Scottish Ale was awarded with a silver medal. The World Beer Championships is run by the Beverage Testing Institute (BTI), one of the world’s foremost authorities on alcoholic beverages. Each beer was tasted, tested, and scored in BTI’s specialized tasting lab in Chicago.

“We channel our expertise and passion for beer into brewing beers that people will love,” says GIB brewmaster Vern Lambourne. “I think that’s why our innovations have such wide appeal, from dedicated beer enthusiasts to those that simply enjoy a full flavoured brew from their local brewery. As for the awards, well, they are nice too!”

Brockton IPA won a gold medal, scoring a rating of 90/100 points (Exceptional). Brockton IPA was created as a celebration of GIB’s historic 25th anniversary. The beer is brewed in the style of a Pacific Northwest India Pale Ale, is nicely balanced and zesty. Golden coloured and well-hopped, Brockton IPA has become a favourite staple of the GIB taste portfolio.

English Bay Pale Ale won a gold medal, scoring a rating of 92/100 points (Exceptional). Careful maturing and natural carbonation make this copper-coloured ale smooth and mild with a delicious caramel malt aroma.

Brand-new limited release Scottish Ale won a silver medal, scoring a rating of 88/100 points (Highly Recommended). This lively and full-bodied ale is as bold as the lochs, hills and coastline that inspired it. Brewmaster Vern’s latest limited release, Scottish Ale is chestnut brown in colour, is definitively malt-forward and has layers of big roasted and malted barley flavours. Pairs exceptionally well with roasted meats, kilts, and good friends.

America’s oldest international beer competition, the World Beer Championships is open to all commercial brewers from around the world. A medal-based competition, it awards medals based on the proprietary blind tasting methodology developed by the BTI and bands of the consumer accepted, 100-point quality rating scale. An elite group of experienced judges from retail, on-premise, distribution, and importing trades, reviews the beers through blind taste tests.
