Driving to Rowena’s Inn A Treat In The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
My husband Michael and I celebrated our two year anniversary in style with a trip out to Harrison Mills, and tested out the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Phev along the way. The Outlander is a plug-in hybrid electric, a combination that is very timely right now as Canada is just establishing the infrastructure necessary for straight plug-ins, and it’s not always possible to get a full charge, so the back-up of gas is necessary.
We brought our bikes, and there was plenty of room inside the car for both our cycles and my always rather large amount of luggage. Michael commented that it felt like a bigger vehicle, but drove tighter than many he’d previously driven. The Outlander has become the best selling vehicle not only in Canada, but also throughout Europe and we could understand why, after we drove the car for a week.
A couple things we’d loved about this ride included the sunroof, power liftgate and the android auto compatibility that connected to the easily visible 7-inch LCD screen. There’s a lot of safety factored into the car as it’s got front, front-side impact, side curtain airbags, and driver knee airbags, as well as a forward collision mitigation system, which uses the adaptive cruise controls radar to keep an eye on traffic to warn you of stopped cars ahead. The vehicle even applies the brakes for you if you don’t respond to the visible and audible signals, there’s lane-departure warnings as well, in case you drift out of your lane, and blind spot and lane change assistance. We’ll take all the help we can get with the crazy traffic and drivers around Vancouver.
The pricing of the Phev starts at $43, 498, which is noteworthy because it qualifies for the government rebate on electric vehicles that takes up to $2,500 off plug-in hybrids. We were very sad to have to return the car to Mitsubishi, and hope to have another adventure with it soon!
Rowena’s Inn
For our anniversary we choose to go to Harrison Mills, an area just outside Harrison Hot Springs, the town most are familiar with. There’s a charming resort in Harrison Mills, Rowena’s Inn at Sandpiper Resort, and we visit it at least every few years, as it’s a place that we feel so very relaxed at. Here is where we are truly leave the rush of the city and our busy lives behind. It’s right on the river and there’s a golf course and restaurant onsite, they are now expanding to accommodate the demand they’ve created, as it’s a popular wedding destination as well.
We had two nights here, so the first we drove into Harrison Hot Springs to a pub we enjoy, The Old Settler, where Michael can get his craft beer needs filled and the food is far better than standard pub fare.
The next day we did a bike ride and went out to visit a local historical site, Kilby, where we ventured through the museum and educated ourselves on the history of the area where many have made their home over the years.
It’s funny how when I finally take the time to slow down, I open myself up to learning stories of the past and I get so interested in the history of our area. This museum and farm is well worth your time, we met some pretty cool farm characters too.
At Rowena’s breakfast is included, so we took full advantage of this treat each day, the highlight being the French toast that Michael ordered and reluctantly gave up a bite to me so I could confirm it’s deliciousness.
We had our anniversary dinner at the onsite restaurant as well, which was very special, the pictures don’t do it justice, but I popped them in anyway. There’s now a new chef and menu and we’ve been told they’ve stepped it up at the Inn. We’ll be back to confirm this!
It’s so relaxing out in Harrison Mills and we will be returning again, perhaps to celebrate our third or fourth year, as I know we have so many years ahead to celebrate, and Rowena’s gives us the opportunity to slow down and really reconnect.
If you follow me on social media, you’ll know that my husband is very stingy with his photo posing, so this is the best I could do on this trip. Happy anniversary to us indeed!
