on

Sweep that special someone off their feet this February 14 with a far from ordinary Valentine’s Day outing in Richmond, BC that’s specially tailored to their unique interests.

If your Valentine is…

A foodie Delight your favourite gourmand with Tapenade Mediterranean Bistro’s special aphrodisiac menu. After indulging on foods that are known to get heartbeats racing, take a romantic stroll along the wooden boardwalk in the Historic Fishing Village of Steveston. If your sweetie has a soft spot for spice, the Thai House Restaurant Richmond is offering a two person set menu of Thai favourites (think Pad Thai and red curry chicken) all for $55. The American Grille, located in the Vancouver Airport Marriott Hotel, is offering an exclusive Four Course Table d’Hôte Menu for $42 per person. You can beat the dinner rush by dining a day early at Mayfair Lakes Golf & Country Club. Choose from signature dishes such as escargot baked in wine, Salmon Wellington and lemon bread pudding as part of their Valentine’s menu available on February 13.

A theatre buff – Surprise your sweetheart with tickets to see Great Expectations, the classic Charles Dickens tale of love, loyalty and ambition, on stage at the intimate Gateway Theatre from February 3 to 19. Ticket prices start at $41 for adults, $24.50 for students, and $35 for groups.

A tea snob – Treat your tea aficionado’s taste buds to a cup of London Lady Tea at the charming London Heritage Farm in Steveston. Afternoon tea in the early 1900s-style heritage tea room consists of London Farm’s own blend of London Lady Tea, homemade scones and jams, and three freshly baked sweet treats. Available on February 12 and 13 from 12pm to 5pm.

A do-gooder – Give back as you celebrate. From February 12 to 14, Boston Pizza Ackroyd will be serving heart-shaped pizzas and $1 from every pizza will be donated to the Boston Pizza Foundation, supporting national and local charities. Boston Pizza Ackroyd will also be selling paper hearts (by donation, minimum $1 and $25+ qualifies for a tax receipt) for you to personalize with messages to loved ones. All proceeds will go to the Boston Pizza Foundation. To pre-order your heart-shaped pizza call 604-273-6151.

Of the furry, four-legged variety –  Fido will fall in love with Metro Vancouver’s top pooch playground, the South Dyke Trail’s Dogs Off-Leash Park. Let your dog run free while you lap up the waterfront views, enjoy artist Michael Swayne’s whimsical public art installation “Dog Party,” and watch the many Bald Eagles nesting in the nearby trees. Missing your pet while you travel? Guests of the Delta Vancouver Airport Hotel are invited to walk playful Cessna, their friendly chocolate lab and official Hotel Dog. The Delta Vancouver Airport Hotel has eight special overnight packages available over the Valentine’s Day weekend.

A fan of Disney movies – Slurp spicy Asian noodles Lady and the Tramp style at one of the 350+ Asian restaurants in Richmond’s Golden Village, famously home to “the best Chinese food outside of China.” Then create your own happily-ever-afterending on an after-dinner stroll spent stargazing at Iona Beach Regional Park, far enough away from the bright lights of the city to offer a spectacular view of the night sky.

Opposed to all that “icky love stuff” – Forgo the love poems and candy hearts in favour of the River Rock Casino Resort’s unconventional approach to “dinner and a movie.” For $29.95 per person, enjoy dinner at The Buffet restaurant followed by the cult classic indie movie Swingers (no schmaltzy love story here) in the River Rock Show Theatre.

A hopeless romantic – Escape for two nights on a romantic tryst at one of Richmond’s 26 international brand-name hotels. Spoil the one you love with the Hilton Vancouver Airport Hotel’s three-course Sharing Menu for Two offered at $29 per person. Then sleep soundly in a beautiful King Junior Suite for only $99 per night. The Travelodge Vancouver Airport is featuring a My Valentine’s package, which includes Executive Room accommodation for two, chocolates, flowers and breakfast for $109.99 per night.
