skills and spillsSkills and Spills, the BC Hospitality Foundation‘s much-anticipated first-ever industry games, takes place on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the Hellenic Cultural Centre (4500 Arbutus Street) in Vancouver from 12noon to 5pm. Registration opens at 10:30am.

Skills and Spills is the industry’s chance to take a day off work, dress up in outlandish costumes, team build and compete against approximately 25 properties from across the city during what may be the ultimate ‘Sunday Funday’ ever! PLUS – it’s a chance to raise funds and awareness for a charity that has given back so much to the community.

Confirmed participants include teams from the Glowbal Group, Earl’s Restaurants, Tap & Barrel, Chewie’s Oyster Bar, Gotham Steakhouse, the Pan Pacific Hotel, Yaletown Brewery and more.

Spectators are encouraged to take in the action and support their friends and colleagues with a $5 suggested donation at the door. The Granville Entertainment Group is providing an on-site beer garden, while the food truck community has come forward to offer their support by sending Feastro, the Aussie Pie Guy and Tacofino to satisfy the hungry masses. The Roxy will also be hosting the after party, directly following the event.

Some of the thrilling competitions will include: ‘The Coat Check Challenge’, ‘The Perfect Pour’, ‘Craft Beer Pong’ and the marquee event: ‘The Hospitality Grind’ – the most gruelling (and exciting) obstacle course ever! Join the BCHF for a one-day only event that will thrill and inspire.

Skills and Spills is a fundraiser for the BCHF that supports the Tip Out To Help campaign, which gives every person in BC’s hospitality industry an opportunity to help the Foundation and to help themselves. Introduced in October 2011, the Tip Out To Help program is an ongoing fundraising campaign administered by the BCHF. In 2013 the goal of Tip Out To Help is to raise $150,000.

Skills and Spills event co-ordinator Lauren Horii says, “I am glad to help bring such a unique event to Vancouver. There is truly nothing like this. The restaurants, hotels, pubs and suppliers in the BC hospitality industry are coming together for what is truly going to be a one-of-a-kind event.”
