KETTLE VALLEY WINERY WINE NOTES

CREST 2007 CABERNET SAUVIGNON

The grapes for this wine come primarily from our Crest vineyard in Naramata.  This Cabernet Sauvignon was farmed at just over one ton to the acre resulting in very intense fruit flavours.  The grapes were hand picked on October 27, 2007 at approximately 24.4 brix.  The wine has gone through a full malolactic fermentation and was aged in French oak for 21 months before bottling in August 2009.  Total production 110 cases of 750ml bottles

2007 OLD MAIN RED

This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, grown primarily in our “Old Main” vineyard with 5% Petit Verdot and Malbec grown in our King Street vineyard, both located in Naramata.  The grapes were hand picked between October 17 and October 29, 2007 at approximately 24.36 brix.  The wine has gone through full malolactic fermentation and was aged in French oak for 21 months prior to bottling.  Total production:  790 cases of 750ml bottles.

2007 MERLOT

The grapes for this wine come primarily from the Elgert vineyard in Okanagan Falls, the Becker, Trovao and Murray vineyards located on the Naramata Bench, the Intile vineyard located in Penticton and the Marchand vineyard on the Westbench. The grapes were hand picked between October 6 and October 28, 2007 at approximately 24.6 brix. The wine has gone through a full malolactic fermentation and was aged in French oak for 12 months.

2007 CABERNET MERLOT

The grapes for this wine come primarily from the Trovao and King vineyards both on the Naramata Bench.  The Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes were hand picked between October 14, 2007 and October 29, 2007 at approximately 24.5 brix.  The wine has gone through a full malolactic fermentation and was aged in French oak for 21 months.  Total production 250 cases of 750ml bottles.

STARBOARD

This wine is a fortified blend of Malbec and Petit Verdot grapes from our King Drive vineyard on the Naramata Bench.  The grapes were hand picked at approximately 25 brix. The grapes were allowed to cold soak for six days prior to commencing fermentation.  Fermentation was stopped after two days by the addition of grain alcohol.  The wine is then blended with an equal amount of older Starboard carried forward from prior vintages.  Approximately 50% of the wine is then returned to barrel to be used in future vintages.
