Les Dames d’Escoffier Marketplace at Lazy Gourmet THIS SUNDAY
As many of you know I am a member of Les Dames d’Escoffier and we are having our annual treasure-filled Culinary Garage Sale this Sunday and you’d be smart to come early! (Following is an excerpt from Dame Cate Simpson). Fellow dames spent last week unearthing all the treasures we have collected over the past year for Les Dames d’Escoffier – BC Chapter Culinary Garage Sale, Sunday, September 16th. With boxes stacked to the rafters, the most exciting discoveries were from the estate of Chef James Barber. The large donation included vintage copper pots, equipment and tools, some brand new, from his many cooking shows. Huge thanks to Christina Burridge for her generosity.
This unique foodie fundraiser is a culinary marketplace like no other. Held under tents from 11 am to 2 pm in the parking lot of the The Lazy Gourmetcatering company (1605 West 5th Avenue) selling new, used and donated baking supplies, culinary school supplies (Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts, kitchen equipment and kitchen tools for home and professional kitchens; Hard to find collectibles, new, used, signed and limited-edition cookbooks and culinary magazines from the collections of some of Canada’s finest chefs and much more!
This year we were thrilled to accept a large and generous donation from the estate of chef James Barber, an eclectic collection of his tools of the trade and books; the inventory from Chef Bruno Marti’s iconic La Belle Auberge (huge thanks to Dame Jane Ruddick), along with, for the second year, a donation from Dame Nicky Major (Major the Gourmet) of vintage and collectable Martha Sturdy showpieces and platters.
Also donated by Nicky Major, a 1945 edition of Gourmet Magazine. This year’s sale also includes two pristine large circular EVO professional outdoor grills valued at 3,800.00. Curious to see what they’ll go for? Come on by……
Gates open at 11:00 am (150 people rushed the door last year!) No early birds/rain or shine under the tents!
