Locals Restaurant Courteney

Old HouseChef Ronald St. Pierre and partner Tricia have recently moved Locals Restaurant into THE OLD HOUSE, a Comox Valley heritage building constructed as residence in 1938 in and turned into a restaurant in the 1970’s.  Set amongst gardens beside the Courtenay River and with a gorgeous sunny patio as a bonus, this home is the perfect setting for a restaurant that devotes itself to high quality locally sourced food. St. Pierre sets the bar for Comox Valley food culture with his seasonal menus and a wine list including both local wineries and old and new world favourites, along with craft beers and cocktails.

Service here is top notch as Tricia St. Pierre runs the front of house and the servers keep things professional while not being overly formal.  They know the ingredients and menu inside out and can easily guide you with beverage pairings.

Locals Clams and Mussels

We stopped in recently for lunch and had an amazing fresh Albacore tuna Loin Tataki served rare with a veggie sushi roll and roasted cashew coriander pesto and I’ve also slurped back some delightful Cortes Island Clam on another visit.

The Halibut Salad is served on seasonal greens with Little Qualicum Cheeseworks Blue Claire and leek fondue and an apple cider vinaigrette; a perfectly cooked piece of fish atop fresh greens.

The sliders are another fun share plate, they’re a Cheeseburger Trio of ground beef  served on brioche with Qualicum Cheeseworks Raclette cheese, Blue Claire cheese and Okanagan pure goat cheese.  Rather hard to decide which was best, but I think the Blue Claire trumped its cheese sisters.
