On November 12, 2022, six chefs and six breweries are coming together for a special This Sandwich, That Beer: Movember Edition throwdown. Hosted by chefs Mike McClintock and Doug Stephen at The American (926 Main Street), each participating chef has been challenged to create a unique meatball sandwich to be paired with local brews. Guests will have the chance to try each sando and beer pairing and vote for their favourite. Tickets are available now via Eventbrite.

This Sandwich, That Beer was created by Kevin Wood, who loves sandwiches and great craft beer. He used to regularly host throwdown events with local chefs before the pandemic and raised funds for various Metro Vancouver charities.

“The Movember movement is something close to both Mike and I’s heart as no man should ignore the importance of prostate health,” explains Stephen, co-owner of DL Chicken, Downlow Burgers, Vennie’s Sub Shop, and The Drive Canteen. “We are thrilled so many of our friends are joining in to help us raise funds for such a worthy cause. It’s going to be a fun night of sandwiches, pints, and giving.”

This Sandwich, That Beer: Movember Edition runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2022. Tickets are $49++ and available for purchase online and via EventBrite. Tickets will give each guest six 2oz sandwiches, at least six 4oz beer pints, and a raffle ticket to win great prizes.

The participating chefs include:

  • Vish Mayekar, executive chef, Pepino’s and Caffe La Tana, Culinary Team Canada and 2022 Top Chef Canada contestant
  • Justin Cheung, chef and co-owner, Potluck Hawkers Eatery
  • Lina Caschetto, chef, Say Hey Cafe and Deli
  • Johnny Bridge, UBC Campus and Mind The Bar
  • Bryan Satterford and Clay Yen, Juke Fried Chicken and Ribs
  • Boris McKay of Vennie’s Sub Shop

The six breweries include:

  • 33 Acres
  • Bridge Brewing Co.
  • Superflux Beer Company
  • Strange Fellows Brewing
  • Powell Brewery
  • Twin Sails Brewing

Awards to be handed out that afternoon are Best Sandwich, Best Beer, and Best Pairing.

“Kevin started something truly amazing all those years ago, and this special Movember Edition is a great way to continue the tradition,” adds McClintock. “This couldn’t be possible without our sponsors Two Rivers Meats, The American, Knifewear, DL Chicken, Meat and Bread, and so many more generous souls. We can’t wait for people to try some fun delicious meatballs and raise money at the same time!”
